I forgot to add.. my heart flutters and jumps around for some reason on and off. I was told before when I went to the ER for the blood trans. that I was on the verge of a heart attack because my iron count was down to a 7 or 9 I forgot.. but anyway it was VERY low. So low that my legs were sweeling up huge because my heart could not get enough blood pumped down there.
You know I take all my meds but yet my periods still get heavy and when my iron is up and good, as soon as I have my period it drops down and here I am anemic again. I feel so bad right now I may have to go back to the ER.
Oh and I cant go to the ER where I live now because they said without insurance they can't see you no matter what. That is what they told me. So I have to drive to another city just to check myself in the ER. This is just horrible!
Is it possible I can just get a hysderectomy (sorry about miss spell) and stop all this bleeding and anemia problems? If I do I can NOT tell my husband because he still hopes for a child someday... I am not trying to be mean but I love my husband and I can not lose him. He is all I have.. :(...
Sorry you are suffering so bad with all this..Hypo can cause period problems, have you been having regular blood tests to see if this is the right dose for you now? Can you post those results on here?
To add to more problems.. I have recently developed a scalp problem. It stays sed and itchy and has been flaking alot. After I blow dry my hair my scalp is red for hours and my dryer do not get very hot at all. When I pull my hair close to my scalp it turns white (my scalp) then let go it turns back to red. Almost looks like a sun burn but its not, I never get out in the sun much at all.
Also, my eye sight is getting so very bad and my eyes get blood shot alot and hurt like pressure behind the eyes. I wear glasses mainly just at night when my vision is worse. The last time I seen a eye doctor well over 4 years ago he told me it looked like I may have glaucoma, and that I had signs of it. He told me to please come back for further testing. Well, I do not have eye insurance and can't afford it. So I guess I will go blind.
Am I dying? Because this is ALOT to deal with.. I do not know anyone with as many health problems as I do. I mean come on!! What did I do so bad in my early years to diserve all of this! :(..
The last time I went in for a iron level test 2 months ago it was good, at a 16 I think she said? But then I started my period just after and its been going since. :(
Oh sorry you meant the Thyroid level.. I will have to wait till I go back to the doctor to tell you. When they give me the results it always "Yes your ok, your in the right levels." Never a number..
I go to a community clinic and have like madicaid or something so its discounted for me.
I also wanted to add to the list my teeth. I have over 6 cavities and had to have 3 of them pulled in the last few months. I also have a popping left jaw.
What about your thyroid levels? have they been done recently? Also if you would like to speak to others in a similar situation with your relationship there is a group called relationships on here, it might be helpful for you as well.A hysterectomy would of course stop the terrible periods, i dont know about the iron though..But this is a decision you have to make, but it is something you should discuss with your hubby..
oh Girl
My heart goes out to you, what an awful time you're having. No wonder you feel down. I'm hypthyroid and have heavy periods, tiredness etc but nowhere near the scale of what you're experiencing. I really feel for you.
I'm in the UK and don't understand how the US healthcare system works. We have the national health service and you get whatever care you need free. if you don't have insurance surely there must be some other way you can access the healthcare you clearly need? Have you tried telling your doctor or the community care centre how desperate you are and detailing all your symptoms?
It sounds like you really need some emotional support aswell - is there a free counselling service you could access in your area? Or is there a helpline you could call to just talk to someone about all your problems. Getting stuff off your chest can help you to see things more clearly and start to identify what steps you can take to address things. If there is a meditation group you could join you might find that actually helps aswell, it has done for me.
I obviously can't know what lies behind all these health problems but if I was you I would be looking very seriously at your diet and exercise. Being so overweight and struggling with everything as you are it will probably be very hard to make positive changes but there's only one way to start moving in the right direction, take the first step. Apologies if you already have a very healthy diet and take regular exercise and all these problems are in spite of that. If you don't then I really urge you to think seriously about it, as a first stept to taking back some control of your life.
33 is so young, everything could look very different and much more positive for you in the future, you have lots of life left to live.
sending you very warmest wishes and luck to start getting on top of things.
I know the weight is a issue even though I'm like 5'11 and have a large frame anyway.. I am very top heavy and thick in my thigh area and stomach.
If I just lost 60 pounds that would be great.. I would be happy real skinny, curvy or a little thick is pretty to me. Anyway, as far as healthy eating goes.. I do eat somewhat healthy but I do eat out occasionally like at Taco Bueno or Jack in Box. I drink a lot of vanilla ice coffee and I am a chocolate freak! I crave it daily so very bad..
I used to drink (beer and wine) alot about twice a week to the point I'm drunk but I have stopped that now. I have not been drunk since Oct.09 which is good.
As far as councelling goes, I could maybe see someone but not sure who. I am not a religious person nor do I go to church so.... uh yea.
I did talk to a doctor once that recommended I try a DNC to see if that would help with bleeding. But you know I talked to my mother tonight about it and her aunt had a bleeding/period problem also, so bad that she never had kids and she eventually just got a hysterectomy. I didn't know that until tonight..
sounds like the only killers in your diet are the vanilla ice coffee and the chocolate.
Occassional eating out and drinking alcohol in moderation shouldn't be a problem, well done for breaking that habit of getting drunk a couple of times a week. that's great.
there's been a lot of publicity in the UK recently about how many calories are in those fancy coffees and it's literally horrific, you have absolutely gotta break that habit girl!!!! when you're carrying so much extra weight you need to start paying attention to this (I don't care how tall or big framed you are, you need to get on the case with this!)
I can relate because I am also a total chocolate freak and find it difficult to resist. the caffeine and the sugar are both addictive substances, the more you eat, the more you will want but if you can break the cycle (like you have done with the booze) you will be so much better off! I'm getting better at resisting but I'm having to really work on it. You might want to check another post of mine on this forum where lots of people have given really good advice for helping reduce those cravings. I think you'll find it easily on the forum or if you click on my profile.
Really, really paying attention to what your putting in your body and not eating stuff that undermines your health will obviously not solve everything for you because the period stuff sounds more complicated, but I'm sure it will do you a lot of good, mentally and physically and will be a great start. Your medical practitioners will also be pleased to see you are taking steps to help yourself.
So now you know about your Mum's aunt's problem that's something else to tell your doctor. Remember that whatever happened to her isn't neccessarily going to happen to you, there are likely to be other treatment options available nowadays. Medicine is moving forward all the time. All health problems are more likely to be solved the earlier they are dealt with.
Ask your doctor and the community med people, about availability of counselling support in your area and/or look on community notice boards, like at your local library, etc. Some churches in the UK offer non religious services to the community, I think the US is more religious than us so that might not be the case over there, but go looking with an open heart and I bet you will find the help you need.
Talking to friends and family and people on here can be good too. Stuff starts to move when we talk about it and address it.
sending you lots and lots of encouragement and warm wishes
We need to know your specific thyroid test results and reference ranges from the lab report. The doctor is required to give you a copy upon request. After all, it is your info.
Even though you are on a low dose of thyroid meds, it may not be nearly enough to get your thyroid hormone levels up to the levels needed. If you will get that info and post it here, members can help interpret.
Sounds like your thyroid really has you messed up. if your on synthroid, i would suggest getting on a more natural medecine. I've been on it for 4yrs. now and I had a total thyroid removed and having problems with this medecine. I have researched armour thyroid and it can adapt to your body better than synthetic med. the only pklace you can get it is in canada at northern pharmacy. it's on the internet and also i would suggest seeing a homeopathic doctor for your bleeding and hormone issues. I don't have insurance either and they are very reasonable and its all natural. good luck.
Yes, I will post up the next results I get OR I will go by and demand that they give me the numbers. It is hard to get anything at that place. I would go in for testing and they will NEVER call you with the results. You have to call them over and over sometimes for weeks just to find out if your ok. They are always packed with people that are low income families on medicaid or medicare ect..
Well, I have to get in to see them agin this week because I am feeling very bad and my heart keeps fluttering and jumping around all crazy (not all the time just a few times a day). My legs are starting to swell some also.. so that usually means my anemia is getting pretty bad and I may have to have a blood transfusion again from loss of so much blood. I am going on 3 months of my period and its mostly heavy flow. :(
I swear... this is getting so bad I can not stand it!! The bleeding has gotten worse the last 2 days and now I am also cramping severely! It hurts to sit down..
I wish I could just cut it all out myself. lol.. jokeing of course.. but this really really *****! :( I hate my body so much.........
Girl this sounds terrible, sounds like you should really get to a doctor today. Can you do that?
Sounds like you need many bumps in your medication and a good doctor. Even though you don't have good insurance, you need to try to find a doctor who can treat you. 50 mcg of thyroid meds is not enough. I am on 125 Synthroid plus 5 Cytomel and feel great. My periods are normal. I have stopped gaining weight. Pain in legs and feet is minimal.
I wonder if you have been tested for Hashimoto's, the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the US. TGab and TPOab blood tests are needed for Hashi. Also, a thyroid ultrasound. Women with Hashi, who are treated with adequate amounts of thyroid medicine have the potential to live healthy, happy lives, and deliver healthy children.
The only thing stopping you from losing the weight and feeling better (bleeding included) is a good doctor who knows how to treat your levels.
I would not be surprised if you have Hashi with the heart fluttering and low vitamins. Get your B12 and D vitamins. Hypo/Hashis tend to be low.
People with Hashimoto's can swing from hyper (rapid heart rate, diarrhea, anxiety, shaky, sleeplessness) to hypo (tired, constipated, sleep all the time, moody, heavy periods). Many of us also have auto-immune hives. I take a Zantac (beta blocker II) and a Zyrtec (beta blocker I) each day and no hives.
I also feel incredible and my periods are back to normal. I have Hashimoto's, but I have a doctor who treats me with a higher level of thyroid hormone, plus he added Cytomel (thyroid T3 drug) and I feel great. I also take a very low dose of birth control pills.
The below website lists recommended thyroid docs. I got mine on this list. I pay for him out of pocket, but it's worth it. Some docs will take payment plans.

Talk with your husband about this. Explain that you have the potential to get better, lose weight and deliver healthy babies if you both can pay for a good doc. How much is your life worth? Because right now, you aren't living at all.

Your problems seem much more severe than a thyroid issue alone. You may have large fibroid tumors of the uterus. I have two fairly small fibroids that cause very heavy bleeding and they need to be removed. My symptoms are nothing compared to yours. If you have a gyno problem and thyroid problem, you really need a full checkup.
Very interesting.. thanks for posting! From what you wrote I do feel the very same things..
"swing from hyper (rapid heart rate, diarrhea, anxiety, shaky, sleeplessness) to hypo (tired, constipated, sleep all the time, moody, heavy periods)."
I have made a appointment to see a new Gynecologist yesterday but the earliest I can get in is Feb. 2nd. :( So, I guess I need to go back in to the other doctor and have them test for the Hashimoto also.
I hope I someone can help me fix my problems.. because I am getting to the point where I feel like I'm about to go insane! :( 12 years is a long time to have this problem.. but the last 3 or 4 have been gradualy getting worse..
I had a test a year or 2 ago a pelvic sonogram where they went inside and checked for those things and found none.
Well, I thought my period was slowing down today because I went from 1pm- till around 6pm using only 1 tampon and pad. After I got to work tonight around 10pm it started getting insanely heavy!! I went through 10 super plus tampons and 2 pads in 2 hours!! I had 4 clots that came out the size of a baseball almost! Not to mention a toilet full of blood. What is really sick too.. I dont even have to pull the tampons out the just shoot out with force because the clots force it out once I sit down I guess..
God I hate this SO much........ I dont think I have ever been this miserable in my whole life. :(
The GYN is good for your heavy bleeding. Maybe you can get on a low dose of the pill. GYNs usually don't know enough about treating thyroid. The GYN can run the antibody tests and your blood levels for you, and you can get copies and post them here as well as take those test results to a good endo:
Remember the five blood tests:
TSH, FT4, FT3 plus the Hashimoto's tests TGab and TPOab
You can ask her to bump your meds from 50 to 75, but she may want you to go to an endo for this. You clearly have hypo symptoms and need a bump, plus many more bumps every few months.

I think I have broken my record.. 32 Super Plus tampons in just 2 days... and yea I use pads as well.
I noticed a tingling sensation in my hands the other day and now my hands/fingers have been feeling very stiff since.
Also my legs are swelling and feel like mushy clay when I touch them. I press my finger into my lower leg or shin area and the endention stays in my leg for quite a few seconds after I press on my leg.
I wish my doc appt would hurry up and get here... still 6 more days to go..
I finally had to go to the ER because I was about to have a heart attack, I could not breath, I became dizzy and almost passed out.
I got in the checked my blood count and it was down to a 6.4 They needed to get a blood transfusion started right away so they did. They put in 2 units.. not enough, then 2 more units of blood brought my levels to a 9.
Then they kept me for 2 days running tests and they decided to do a D&C on me. They did it on Sunday and I was released to go home.
Now 2 days later I am bleeding extremely heavy again and losing blood fast!! I called the doctor that did my D&C and she is out for a week so I must find another doctor now. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME!!?? I can NOT stop bleeding for nothing! ITs been over 2 months of constant blood loss...... I will be bad anemic again soon and will have to go back to the ER I just know it. :(
I had heavy periods like that and was given the option to have a hysterectomy or an endometrial ablation. At the time I wasn't ready for the hyster so had the ablation which stopped bleeding for good. Then when I was ready I proceeded with the hysterectomy (had the additonal of ovarian cysts at that time or I wouldn't have needed it). Didn't find out I had thyroid problems til years later when a goiter showed up since my thyroid hormone levels always showed normal when they tested them.

jeez girl, I can't believe what a horrendous time you are having - it's outrageous. If I was you I'd be parked in the ER insisting on another doctor looking at me right now. I hope the info from oscarmaya might help but really - get down that hospital and insist they help you urgently is the only advice I can think of. no-one should have to put up with what you're going through!
