RAI and parathyroid lobes???

OK...its me again.  We got moved after the house foreclosure and it took a month to get internet and cable back.  My question of the day is: Will RAI kill off the parathyroid lobes too??

I've had kidney stones AGAIN (but with hydronephrosis this time) and a friend who's nurse asked if the endo was watching my parathyroid lobes too and some level I can't remember? I told her I wasn't sure and would find out at my next appt. with him.  What I've learned is the parathyroid lobes control the calcium levels and when they're out of whack, can get rid of too much calcium, thus kidney stone formation.  I'm wondering if my parathyroid will be "damaged" enough to stop these painful kidney stones???

Regardless of how long ago the question, I feel compelled to write for others who read later.  Absolutely, it is well documented medically that RAI can induce frequency of HPT (even years down the road).  FYI... while RAI may only be absorbed by the thyroid, it can and does impair or destroy surrounding tissue.
--One of the main things not mentioned above is that it is PTH (parathyroid hormone) that should be consistently tested along with Ca and Vit D.
-- Additionally, bone loss (even osteopenia) is another indicator along w/many other symptoms.  Important to have DEXA's, but it is my understanding it's now believed these should also be inclusive of forearm/phlanges scanning, to aid in earlier detection.
--Kidney stones can be tested to see if they are Oxalate or another composition.  The highest likelihood is they are caused by PHPT.

I've come across a lot on parathyroid and thyroid disease and treatment but never noticed anything written that indicates RAI would normally do anything to the parathyoids.

Your best bet is to ask the dr about this.

Take care.

There is no corralation  with the thyroid and parathyroids - at least not proven. RAI will only be absorbed in the thyroid.

If you are having issues with the parathyroids - your doctor should be checking seruim calcium - ionized calcium - phorphorus and Vit D every 2 to 3 months to see any consistancies on abnormal levels. Further seperate testing and scans will be needed if the parathyroids show abnormalties.
