Radioactive Iodine and Sed

How long do I wait after radioactive iodine to have sex? I've not been able to find any information on this subject on the Internet so far and my doctor didn't mention it.

Thanks!

Oh. And I had another question. Did any of you guys experience any pain afterwards? I was great (except for tired) from Wednesday until Saturday. Saturday the pain started. It's exactly in the spot where my thyroid gland used to be, then another area around my left neck lymph node. I wasn't expecting that.

Have you guys noticed that a good bit of information you find online is inconsistent? I did finally find online that you should wait a month. I found another site that said wait a week. So I called the hospital. The radiologist I got in touch with said wait a week. My endocrinologist said wait two weeks. Valentine's Day without sex would kinda suck.

I had RAI over a year ago and I'm *still* using it as an excuse.  :-)

Just kidding.

One month is right on the nose.  Warn him he doesn't want to glow in the dark.  :-)

Hmmmmmmmmmm truely after RAI for me that really was the last thing I thought of. I think your posted question is intresting. After 23 years of marriage, it was kinda nice to use that as an excuse instead the the old traditional excuse of the head ache thing. I didn't want to nuke the guy -- you know. Hmmmmmmmm.. no - I guess. I really didin't

Here I found a blurb for you to use as a general reference:

Patients receiving radioiodine treatment are warned not to have sexual intercourse for one month (or shorter, depending on dose given), and women are told not to become pregnant for six months afterwards. These guidelines vary from hospital to hospital and will depend also on the dose of radiation given. One also advises not to hug or hold children when the radiation is still high, and a one or two metre distance to others may be recommended.

Google search - intercourse after thyroid RAI and you should get more answers you are looking for.

Thanks for the thought of the day. :)
