Hashimotos and thyroid cancer

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and upon a routine exam my doctor noticed that there were some enlargements on my neck. He then sent me to have an untrasound done and the results came back today. I have some fluid filled nodules on the right side which may or may not be a goiter. He then said there is a concern about a nodule on the left that seems to be "cold". He said it is just a nodule that has no fluid and it measures about 2cm. He is setting me up an appt with an Endocrinologist ASAP. I was just wondering what are the chances that I have thyroid cancer and what exactly can you tell me about the "cold spot' he says was there.? Any information would be helpful as I am a little worried about this.

I'm no expert with Hashi's but I know it doesn't preclude cancer (everyone else in my family with thyroid cancer also has Hashi's).

Here's a web site that I found VERY helpful when learning about nodules and thyroid disorders.

http://www.endocrineweb.com/thyroid.html

This site tells you a lot about diagnoses that you have and that may help you have additional questions that we can answer.

Hi.  Welcome to the site.  I'm so sorry no one responded to this.  I'm bumping it up to see who is knowledgable on Hashi's.

I can tell you that my nodules were small and I never had any symptoms, just a CT for an unrelated issue that showed some "calcification" of nodules I was totally unaware that I even had.  The FNA (Fine Needle Asperation) was suspicious and the TT (total thryoidectomy) reported cancer.  And it is a VERY treatable cancer.

I really wouldn't worry until you know something more diffinative.  You could drive yourself crazy worring about something that could be nothing.  And I do mean nothing.  90 - 95 percent of thyroid nodules are benign.  Please keep posting.  We are here for  you.
