Surgery in the morning

Well, it's finally here.  I'm having surgery for my recurrent thyroid cancer in the morning.  This is still contingent on if I have a fever in the morning (I've been sick) but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I saw my endocrinologist today and while I was there asked him to listen to my chest to make sure it wasn't congested because they said that is one thing, other than fever, they would cancel the surgery for.  Luckily, no congestion, but my temp was 99.6.  I've taken some Tylenol, and my fever seems to have gone down.  Now it just needs to stay that way!!!

After the surgery, I'm going to have a bit of a wait for the RAI because they did a CT with contrast in late March.  I'm ok with that, though.  I'll take the summer to recover from the surgery, maybe get a tan, and then be ready for all the RAI they want to throw at me.

Anyway, I know I don't post much here, but I read everything and I do appreciate the support I've received and appreciate the wisdom of those who have done so much research and have shared what they've learned.

Thanks!!
Amy

Woo hoo.  I made it.  My temperature was just where it was supposed to be.  However, the surgeon ended up taking a LOT more out than he initially thought he was going to and the surgery took twice as long so my poor husband and 24 year old daughter were freaking out.  I'm waiting, of course, for the pathology to come back to see how much of what he took out was cancerous.  It's so weird going through this again after 22 years.  The scar is exactly the same size as it was the first time, but at least this time, no ugly staples.  Just the steri-strips.  Even though none of this showed up on a WBS they want to try a large dose of RAI as well, but I can't do that until at least August as I had a CT with contrast in March.

Anyway, sorry if I'm rambling.  It's 5am, and I've been up since 8pm.  I haven't had any drugs since 6pm because they made me really nauseous and actually, I'm not having all that much pain.  I'm guessing that could change tomorrow, but for now I'm doing well.

Thanks so much for all the support!

I hope this cold doesn't hold off the surgery. You will do great. The summer holiday sounds excellent. I wish I had that luxury :)
