TSH at 29.30

I spent all of last year fighting stage 3 breast cancer. Chemo, mastectomy, more chemo and then radiation. I got 2nd degree burns on my neck from the radiation, bad enough that he had to stop treating that area for a week. I finished my radiation in September. In October I started getting energy back and started feeling like "me" again. I was eating healthy and had gotten up to 3 miles a day walking. That lasted 2 months. I started falling, cramping, fatigue, went from 8 hours sleep a night to 3 or 4 hours. Anyways, I told my primary all of these strange things. Blood tests brought back my TSH at 29.30 which she said is excessive. I'd never even heard of TSH to be honest. She called in a prescription of levothyroxin 112 mcg. Tests also showed decreased kidney function at 55 mpm, whatever that is. Still waiting on the rest of the test results. She thinks the kidney issue is caused by the thyroid and wants me medicated for 30 days before re-doing bloodwork.

Ok... should I see a specialist for what my primary calls excessive THS numbers? And, could radiation to my chest and neck have caused this problem with my thyroid? Please keep in mind I'm just repeating what's been told to me as I haven't met with my primary to go over all of this.

First time here, sorry for the long story. Still reading all of these posts trying to learn.

I can just say that radiation to the neck/chest area can cause hypothyroidism.

I would see an endo just to be sure and get an expert opinion.

I hope your recovery continues to go well!

Wow..have you been through a lot. I wish I knew more to help. Radiation to the neck is a leading cause of thyroid cancer but does not show up for years later after the radiation from what I have read. I have also read that people who have thyroid cancer will have normal thyroid levels. Ya know..there is no telling what is going. It would be my opinon to go see a specialist. If your doctor thinks that the kidney # is a result of a problem with your thyroid then a thyroid specialist should look at it. Sorry that I could not be of more help and my very best wishes to you.
