Some doctors try to break news gently. Some doctors figure you won't understand what they're saying, so they dumb it down for you, or just plain don't tell you. Everybody's a little different, and that goes for doctors, too.
I had to laugh a few weeks back. My GP's nurse called me with some blood results that were not great. She told me what my antibody count was as if she was telling me my Mother just died. She felt horrible saying the numbers. I was like "Well, I knew that a year ago. No big deal."
She was afraid I was going to take it badly. I suppose a lot of doctors are not sure how a patient will react to bad news, also. Depends on how well they know you.
My current doctors are very forthright. They know me well enough to know I am going to keep asking questions till I get it, and they know I spend way too much time on the internet.
So they tell me straight out, and if I don't understand they dumb it down until I do.
One of them is happy to be blunt with me. I really like him. He tells me like it is and I tell him the same. One time he told me he understands that my disease is destroying my life, but he can't do much about it. At least I know he gets it.
The other sometimes wishes I would just shut up and do as I'm told. But she knows by now I am going to keep asking if she doesn't tell me EVERYTHING. She thinks a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, which is true. But she also knows I understand the terminology and how things progress and leaving out unpleasant bits is just going to lead to more questions.
I hope you get the conflicting schedule figured out. Having more than one doctor involved is good, but it can sometimes lead to confusion. Make sure they are sharing test results and conclusions with each other if you are going to be seeing both of them.
Best of luck to you.
thank you again and my pleasure of corse :)
and yeah my doctor sent me to the hospital person when i first was diagnosed and so forth be treated by him because he told me its what they do because of my age. Apparently he wanted me to be treated by a specialist because i was severe for my age or something, I'm not quite sure but I've just follow the appointments I'm told to have.
And yeah he must already have them which is why i'm so confused why he's now making me another appointment. I've been treated by the hospital consultant and he made sense in making myy July appointment and now my GP is just confusing me. My exams are starting soon and i don't want to have him pestering and poking and prodding me in the middle of it. I think they must trust the hospital because they sent me there for the test the crazy cats.
I'll phone them monday, can i ask do your doctors avoid telling you things bluntly, because i know this little test thing isn't that big of a deal but its just everytime I see a doctor they give me a wierd look on their face for a while and kind of sugar coat everything so 5 minutes after i leave i'm like what?
And my word I'm so sorry for complaining so much its just i can't do it anywhere else.
Best wishes and thanks so much again
Is your GP trying to get you to be treated by this "hospital consultant"? What exactly is your medical relationship to the hospital consultant? Why is your MD handing you off to someone else?
If your GP is going to treat you, can you just get the hospital lab to fax your MD the test results from two weeks ago? It sounds like he already has them...
Does the clinic not trust the lab the hospital uses? I don't get that part. Maybe they use two different labs with different reference ranges?
I would call the clinic back and ask more questions, and if they treat you like you are stupid, tell them you are a CUSTOMER and would like to be given the information you need with a little respect.
But if you can answer a few more of my questons, I'd apreciate it. :)
Firstly, I absolutely love you ar-10, you always help me and lots of others i see. thank you so much.
And yes I had thyroid tests, my prescription didn't change because i am at 2.5 which is what i was before i got the disease apparently, down from 137.5. And my doctor didn't speak to me which is why i am a little annoyed, he left a note for the receptionist to give to me saying "Sarah, please have a blood in the next six weeks". I have talked to the nurses but they said well i took the actual blood test at the hospital so i need one done there aswell or something along those lines and talked as though I was a child; but i know they're wrong because my GP had initially called me when blood tests where through and told me that they're normal and should see my hospital consultant.
Did you have thyroid blood tests two weeks ago?
Was your perscription changed?
Does your doctor want you to wait six weeks, and then be re-tested? Or did he say "anytime inthe next six weeks"?
Do you have a copy of the test results?
Can you call your GP's nurse and get some answers?
