Hyperthyroidism

Hello I was just tested and my doctor said I had extremely low Hyperthyroidism in my body. I dont know what that means but he she had me take a lab for my thyroid to see what exactly she thinks is the problem. Can this be related to HIV?  I had unprotected sex 2 moths ago I was tested negative but then I got sick. So the doctor did further testing and said she believes its somethign to do with my thyroid. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

I take PTU which is short for Propylthiouracil, 100 MG a day.

I use to also take Trazadone and Xanax for my insomnia. But I found that Natural Calm Magnesium is excellent for insomnia. It gives you brain fog at first but now I don't get foggy at all, just relaxed. Try to stay away from Xanax. I took the minimum and had horrible withdrawal.

Btw, hyperthyroidism makes you feel horribly stressed and every thing, how bad or little, is magnified into the worst event ever. Try to stop worrying. I don't think you have HIV. I use to be paranoid that people were out to get me and that I was dying of cancer. Kind of funny now.

Hi thanks again for your words, I releazied that the doctor said having low thyroid is hyper no hypo so i have hyperthyrodism which makes sense because I have alot of the symptons but why would they come up alot now that I had unprotected sex is it because I had high anxiety and the levels of Thyroid dropped? Also regarding the HIV test is the the CDC changed the guidelines for HIV testing they recently changed it from 6 months to 3 months due to the better tests. So my 12 week mark in right around the corner. I doubt that I would be HIV+ because the girl I slept with did not sleep around in fact she has only had one other sexual partner who she was engaged to she was with him for 2 years and with me for 1 year and 1/2 but when we were together she did not allow me to have a sexual relationship with her because of her religion. We fooled around etc. write back,

I am glad you tested negative.  You can retest after a few mos. again to be certain.  But, my bet is that it isn't related.  What a scare.  Hopefully will NOT do that again?  One foolish moment can kill.

You are getting great posts in reply to your ? .. nothing else to add here ... keep us posted~

I dont mind at all any additional information is gratefully appreciated.  I have always had a major problem through out my life to being super sensitive to heat and cold etc. I have super dry skin and my depression has been supressed. These could be signs to Graves disease. So Skymax what kind of medicine are you taking?

Sure. (Sorry atombomb9 if we're hijacking your thread. But since you are hyperthyroid too, it might relate.)

I have Graves Disease but it took over 10 years to get properly diagnosed b/c docs kept diagnosing me I was clinical depressed -- even though I kept saying 'I wouldn't be depressed if I weren't so freakin tired'. I was finally diagnosed with hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease when I got pregnant 2 years ago.

Symptoms included:
-hair falling out, super fatique, bipolar-ness (extreme irritabilty and anger issues), shaking, hearty palpitations, loss/gain of weight real fast, dry itchy skin and scalp, brain fog, gray hairs, cracky bones and joints, general weakness, super sensitive to heat and cold, over all overwhelmed by everything, suicidal at times, I felt like I was 80 years old and ready to die

I don't have numbers but TSH always 'slightly' hyper. I had a fit in an endo's office when he wasn't going to treat my slightly hyperthyroid but now I'm on antithyroid med, PTU, and it's made a world of difference. It took me alot of energy and aggressiveness to get treated b/c docs don't get it. The easiest thing to say is 'you're depressed' like I was doing it to myself. Very frustrating. One doc told me to drink more coffee if I was so tired. Stupid doctor.

Relax. I think you are freaking out. I'm hyperthyroid and don't have HIV as most people on this board. Good lesson though: Don't have unprotected sex.
