Thyroid Goiter and Mastoiditis

A couple of years ago i saw an endincriologist and had a thryoid ultrasound and he discovered a somewhat large goiter. you can see it when i swallow. The only symptons at the time was a hoarse throat. It was a benign goiter. I ask the surgeon at the time if the surgery was neccessary and he said it was up to me. well i did not have the surgery and now 2 years later down the road i have sharp mastoid ear pains that radiate down my right side of neck . I had my hand on my neck the other day and was feeling for lumps on my neck and when i pushed on what i thought was a little lump a terrible pain shot up to the mastoid process of the temporal bone. This comes and goes from time to time . what would cause this terrible pain. i just had another ultrascan done because i have decided to take it out. but i do not have the results back. could you give me some insight about can the two go hand in hand.

Interesting is your question!  I have an enlarged thyroid (doc called it a goiter too) and right now, I guess its small.  I had a US in April - showed no leisions, just enlargment more on right.  I had a CT that revealed "patchy opacification (this means clouding look) of the right mastoid air cells along with shotty nodes thoughout the neck and back.  I just thought your usage of mastoiditis was interesting since I found that word a lot when researching this mess.  Let me know if you get an answer!  Anyway, I have a repeat US in October since my doc is feeling a nodule now.  I have intermittent neck (even upper) pain and it occasionally radiates to the ear and under jaw.  Hope you get answers!
