My new doctor discovered a lump in my thyroid in December of 07. After doing a biopsy in January and she couldn't determine if the lump was good or bad, and a thyroid scan, she decided it was best to remove the whole right thyroid. That was last week, April 21. I saw her yesterday, and was told the mass was larger than she thought and the glad was the size of her fist. The mass was a tumor and calcified, and had three separate cancers. There is a small nodule on my left thyroid and she plans on just removing the nodule, in two more months. When she was operating last week, she said she glanced at the lymph nodes and they didn't look like they were affected, but she would check them when she operates again.
I'm a 47 years old female. I am rarely sick except for the common cold, which I haven't had for some time, and common stomach problems I usually have only when I eat something with any type of sugar alcohol. Headaches also, but not enough to be considered any type of problem.
My question is, what is the prognosis, and what is the significance of the calcification of the tumor? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Thanks so much,
Sandra
