I think the TSH range should actually be 0.23 - 4.2.
If the T4 doesn't specify Free, then it's for total, which is obsolete and of little value. I think this has to do with NHS guidelines.
Different labs use different ranges and we find that ranges in UK are much broader than here in the U.S., apparently, because NHS doesn't want people diagnosed with thyroid issues and have to provide medication ......
Even though there are people in the U.S that have trouble finding an adequate thyroid doctor, we find people in UK usually have to either go private or go through a lot of red tape to get adequate treatment. Apparently, some doctors are willing to jump through the hoops for NHS and some aren't.
I've heard it said that if you go to the doctor and TELL them exactly what you want, some will go along and do it. You might try that. I've also heard it said that even if a doctor orders a test, the lab might not run it - again, due to NHS regulations.
Hi barb on the print outthat the doctor gave me it say serum TSH level 0.23 mlu/L then normal range 027-42 and my T4 says 21.5 normal range 12.22 would this be different in the uk as I am from london if you no of a good thyriod doctor over here that would test for all you been saying please send me some info thank
There are no "standard" normal ranges for FT3 and FT4. The ranges vary from lab to lab, so must always be taken from your actual report.
I've never seen a TSH with a range of 0.27.-42, can you clarify that? Accepted range recommended by AACE approximately 10 yrs ago is 0.3-3.0.
Hi could anyone tell me what is the normal range for free T4 and free T3 is as i only ever got these test done when i was first told i had Hashimots's thyroid which was back in 2009 Oh and one in 2011 which was freeT4 21.5 normal range 12.22 and Tsh was 0.23 normal range 0.27.-42, does this make sence to anyone cheers for any help.
Many of us have multiple nodules on our thyroid; it's usually not a big issue as long as there's nothing unusual about them. Enlarged/swollen thyroid is common with nodules.
Will be interested in the blood test results, particularly Free T3 and Free T4. Hope your doctor also did antibody tests to determine if you have Hashimoto's.
When you see your doctor, make sure you get a copy of the lab report, then post the actual test results here for us to evaluate. Be sure to include the reference ranges, since these vary lab to lab and must come from your own report. Where you fall, within these ranges is very important.
