Thyroid storm?

I was dx'd hypo I believe in May started taking a low dose of Levothyroxine now I am hyper and keep having periods of time that my heart rate accelerates, I get dizzy, jittery, anxious, chest pains and weak. Where should I go from here? What does this sound like? I tend to go back and forth.  thank you

Then I urge you to request to be tested for all the ones I mentioned.  If the doctor resists, just insist on it and don't take no for an answer.  It is important to have results on all of them.

Yes, definitely you should be optimistic.

From that low dose of thyroid med, I would not expect the reactions you had.  That leads me to wonder if you could have other issues.  One of those possibilities is low ferritin.  The amount of ferritin stored reflects the amount of iron stored.  If ferritin is low, taking thyroid meds (even when needed) sometimes produces hyper like symptoms.  Following is a quote from an article on this.

"Low ferritin can cause negative reaction like palpitations, nervousness, and anxiety in someone starting thyroid hormone replacement.  Someone described it like being shot out of a cannon.  It is therefore imperative that ferritin not be at the bottom of the range before starting thyroid hormone medication."

If you haven't been tested for ferritin, Vitamin D, and B12 then you should request those, along with Free T3 and Free T4.  Another possibility is having Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which can cause nodules on the thyroid gland.  These nodules can leak hormone faster than normal, causing hyper like symptoms.  To determine this possibility, you should test for the thyroid antibodies associated with Hashi's.  Those tests are TPO ab and TG ab.   An ultrasound test would show if nodules are present.

I was taking 25mcg of levothyroxine daily. I have an appt. with gp today he should have the results. Endo just called and ordered some other meds. to slow HR which I am leary of taking. haven't picked it up yet. not sure what labs they ordered yet either. I have missed too much work because of this. Should I still have hope? it's been 6 years.

If you could call and get the lab results and reference ranges for them that would be very helpful to us.

What is your daily dosage of thyroid med?

Not sure what new labs are as I have not felt well enough to go get them. however my HR went as high as 164 resting, went to ER all they could find is that I am now hyper and said that these are the symptoms.?
Since then I have been having palpitations and have been missing a lot of work. I can't take this much more. I just want my life back.

On what basis were you diagnosed as hypo in May?  Was it based on testing for the thyroid antibodies associated with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. which is the most common cause for diagnosed hypothyroidism?  Those tests are TPO ab and TG ab?

Also, please post your latest thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.  If tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, please post those and reference ranges as well.
