Synthroid help - Side effects ??

Hi,
I started taking Synthroid .075mg last weekend (Sunday),.  Till around mid week I felt fine, tuesday I began eating up a storm and by friday my anxiety level is on overload and hasn't let up yet, previous tinnitus condition is worse, I feel dizzy (unbalanced when I walk), tired, having diarrhea since friday, body is burning up, heart sputters as if it wants to quit, then gets really fast, slows down, fast, then normal rate, then the cycle starts again, distorted blurry vision & headache, and constantly feel like passing out, yesturday I passed out from being so exhausted (nap).  Then felt better afterwards, but this morning I am progressively getting worse, as time pass.

Has anyone experience these side effects on Synthroid ?  I'm surprised I feel so terrible on such a low dose.  My TSH is .080

Debating wheter I should go to the ER, I am not feeling well at all.

I agree... I'd have the levels tested again and hopefully they will take ALL the counts into consideration and not just the TSH, plus hopefully they will use the NEW level ranges that are out now and not the outdated .34-5.6 ones.
I never knew how rotten the Thyroid can make you feel and how wonderful you can actually feel when you find a doctor that treats YOU and the SYMPTOMS and not just looking at lab results.  I've been through so much with it all... you'll be in my prayers.
Blessings.

Please see a Doctor and get your blood levels done as too MUCH Thyroxin can cause you Thyroid Storm should you already be HypeR (overactive thyroid).
Dont wait until July.

Take Care

Don't wait until the end of July to be tested again. Call him - or a another qualified doctor to be tested every two weeks AND get a TPO test done.

I would think a real doctor would tell you to stop taking Synthroid and retest.

Hi AR,
Thanks for reply.  That's the concerns I had with doc's or endo's prescribing synthroid to reduce thyroid swelling on patients with normal TSH levels.

My endo said, synthroid has a 5% success rate reducing thyroids, but is always considered before surgery.  Got my fingers crossed hoping I'm one of the 5%,.

I see him again July 28th, then I will know if my thyroid reduced in size, or if my thyroid levels have been fluctuated.

That was almost two months ago.

0.8 is not too bad of a TSH. It truly is in the normal range.
Neither hypo nor hyper.

But that was seven weeks ago.

I don't know. I realize Synthroid is used to shrink goiters, but what are they supposed to do about your hormone balance? Hope the thyroid shuts down? Drive you hyper as part of the treatment? I'm not familiar with it so I can't say.

But from your other post it sounds like you're past that "maybe it will shrink" gamble anyway. The doctor should have explained to you exactly what he expected the med to do to you and for you, and the possible risks.

Sorry again, I'm not hypo either, geez.  It's the synthroid.  My brain just doesn't want to function.  I'm in the normal range according the the lab results.  Closer to hyper then hypo.  Got it right this time hopefully.

Hi,
Thanks to everyone for replying, I feel horrible, but I'm managing.  I was getting ready to visit the ER grabbed my lab results, and made a major mistake on my TSH level, it's .80 not .080, I'm hypothyroid.  Oops :o)

My TSH was tested 4pm, 4/21/08  Lab reference range is .34 to 5.6

My vision hasn't been all that great lately.  I feel horrible.  I'm going to get checked out and let you all know, what was diagnosed.
Thanks

I was on Synthroid for 2 months and FINALLY after the doctor wouldn't listen to me after calling him (like it SAID to do on my patient information paper that came with the Script) and telling him I was having:
Heart Flutters, daily Migraines, muscles cramps, vision problems, weight gain, hair loss, kidney aches
and he wouldn't do anything.... I switched doctors and my new doctor took me off of Synthroid and put me on Armour.  She said obviously I couldn't tolerate the drug, and it should have been done a month or more ago.
So, yes, those are the serious side effects of Synthroid.  I would go to the ER because the heart is nothing to mess with.

I suffer with hyperthyroidism and Graves and yes you are VERY hypeR.
Stop the meds straight away and go to a hospital to get that heart rate settled.
You can suffer from tachycardia fibbrillation while Hyper which gives those symptoms you describe.Getting checked over by a Hospital would give you peace of mind and also get you back on track..
Hopefully Dr. Lupo will answer yr question quickly .
Take Care and let us know how you go.
In Hyperthyroidism...the TSH is LOW, the FT4 and FT3 is HIGH

Starting that high a dose when you are already slighty hyper was a bad idea. I see you have a question in to Dr. Lupo. Hopefully he will answer it before you end up in the hospital.

Your Dr. is trying to shrink your goiter, but he is going to make you very sick. Your TSH WAS 0.080 before you started the Synthroid. A week later it is lower and will keep going lower.

It's not a side affect of the medication. It is a direct affect of the medication doing something bad to your body. It is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. But your body doesn't need it.

The VA is not going to help you. They don't have the experience to help you. You'd be better off in a state funded hospital for indigents rather than letting the dorks at the VA treat you.

Find another avenue of treatment. Your VA doctor is so wrapped up in beurocracy he couldn't help you if he wanted to.

Were you ever hyper first and the hypo?  I was hyper at first, did the RAI treatment and went hypo and now I am in the normal range.   My endo started me off with 100 mg of synthroid.

You TSH is definitely in the hyper range and if you really feel so bad, please go to the emergency room.  Please keep in mind that hyper will make you feel awful, because everything is in fast mode.

Take care and keep us posted.

I can't understand why they gave it to you in the first place. It sounds as if you are hyper to start with.

I would go to the ER, if you can't manage the symptoms at home . I have been med induced hyper before and it is a mental nightmare.

Keep us posted.......Peggy

Why are you taking Synthroid when your TSH is so low already?  I've never been hyperthyroid but it sounds like you are headed in that direction?  I don't know how it feels to go hyper but it definitely sounds like something isn't right. I say go to the ER. It certainly cannot hurt anything at all. And if you tell them your heart is racing they will get you in ASAP.  I'm on 150 mcg of Synthroid and my TSH is .2 now and I feel good so far.  But if I felt like you do I'd be heading to the doc.
