Treatment or not?

I have seen my doctor for Thyroid tests, results:
Thyroid antibodies 2400 should be around 60
TSH first test 8.9 second test 3.9
Free T4 with second test of TSH 10.4 should be greater than 11.
Symptons: memory loss, lack of concentration, fatigue, low libido aching joints.
My doctor says no treatment is needed. My understanding is the anitbodies will continue to destroy the thyroid. Should I be treated or wait until the free t4 is lower and my TSH climbs?

Both Hyper and Hypo can cause depression.
Anyone who tells you different...needs to check their research.
Anytime the thyroid levels are 'out of whack'...depression is a major symptom along with anxiety and panic disorders.

Thanks for the feed back. I live in a small town so it will be difficult finding a new doctor. I would like to see an endo but need a referral and I an sure my doctor won't give me one. I have been mild to moderately depressed for the last year and my doctor thinks my symptoms are related to that not the thyroid. From what I have read a hypo thyroid can cause depression! I will definitely try to find a doctor with a better understanding. Thanks again for the comments.

Your TSH is high. I don't understand your FT4 ranges. My lab uses 0.8-1.8.

WHAT'S UP WITH THOSE ANTIBODIES??? You have Hashimotos and you NEED treatment. Are you sure your doctor has a degree? Does he still use leeches on his patients?

Get a new doctor. Get on some hypo meds and get better!

You should be treated NOW.

Both your TSH tests are above the currently accepted range of 0.3-3.0.  Your lab and doctor are probably using an obsolete range.

Furthermore, your FT4 is below range, so you are hypo now.  Next time you have labs, request FT3 also.

Since your antibodies are elevated, you have Hashi's.  And, yes, the antibodies will continue to destroy your thyroid, making your symptoms worse all the time.

Your doctor is also ignoring your symptoms.

I'd find a doctor who knows something about thyroid.  Your current doctor obviously hasn't a clue.
