Hypothyroidism during early pregnancy

I am about 6 weeks pregnant. A week ago( i was 5 weeks 1 day pregnant) I got my tests done and it showed that my TSH level is 7.17, Progesterone level is 23.6 and HCG level is 9522. Only symptom I had was hot flashes at night and inability to loose weight which had been going on for about 1.5 years. My doctor said everything was normal when she did my tests in dec 2008. How will this impact my baby? Is this bad for my pregnancy? What should I do now?

Thank you so much for your answer Super Sally. I am seeing an Endocrinologist tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to mention FT3 & FT4 tests if he doesn't talk about them. My PCP refused to prescribe anything to me as he was not confident about Thyroid abnormalities during pregnancy, leaving me all confused and worried. I really really appreciate your response.

Hi,

your TSH is high, though not terribly so .  You do need to be on thryoid meds though.  Hypothyroide can increase risk of miscarriage.  When do you see your doctor?  The doctor should also test FT3 and FT4 and aim to get these in top 1/2 of the normal range throughout pregnancy.

Please do message me with more questions. I'll do what I can to answer.
