Want to hear something cool?

A woman in my thyca group had to have a neck dissection because of recurrence (that's not the cool part).  The doctor knew that because of where the cancer was- in many lymph nodes, they weren't going to be able to save her parathyroid glands on that side so they transplanted them into her arm muscle, right above the wrist!  Amazing.

That is so cool -- but kinda wierd ... I know the thyroid doesn't have anything to do with one's throat (other than its conventional physical location), but I just can't help imagining the woman with this spare throat & voice box inserted into her arm.  I would be afraid of it saying something I might regret.

Sorry -- I sometimes think of things that are funny in my head but then when I put them out on paper they're more wierd than funny.  Please excuse me ... (^_^)

Yes, they're working I guess.  She went to the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville, FL.  Very cool.
