I've never really suffered with colds and flu etc UNTIL I started to get the flu jab and the pneumovax jab.
Each year, I would get the flu and then brinchitis then pneumonia after these jabs.
I havent had these jabs for nearly 11 years now as the Doc said my body was 'reacting' against the jabs.
I had what I call the 'flu' in March but wasnt really sick.....a few days of a head cold and sniffles.
I found I never really got sick the last 11 years and I too....had 3 grandchildren around me who always got colds etc.

I dont know but I think the Graves antibodies scare the flu bugs away lol.

I too work in a school with 400 snotty nosed kids running around hugging me all the time. LOL

At first when I was feeling bad ( thyroid) I was sick all the time. Colds flu - you name it.

Its a fact the hypoT will dragged your immune system down, but it can be bumped up to a high level of fighting off these illness.

Supplements ( and the right ones are needed) Zinc 60mgs - Vit C and others do a fine job for us when illness is around.

But you can't just take them at the drop of a hot either and then stop.

You need to maintain the immune system levels with these supplements daily to stay healthy.

How's this for an opinion? I work in the healthcare field, where I am coughed and
sneezed on each and every workday! I have had the occasional sniffles this year,
but no flu's of any kind. I wash my hands often, use a sanitizing gel A LOT!
I actually purchased a few to leave on our counters so the patients would feel
encouraged to use them too.

Anyway, I have no thyroid, just like a lot of us here. Get plenty of rest, eat healthy
and take your vitamins. Use hand sanitizing gels or sprays when you cannot
wash your hands. like after going through the checkout stand at the store, or
opening public doors, pushing elevator buttons....the list goes on forever. Do these things and you should not have to worry at all!

Take care,

Terri

I heard yesterday that basically everyone who gets the flu will find its the swine flu.
Persoanlly I think its like the 'bird flu' we had and there will be another flu next year called most probably the 'Rat Flu' (hehehe).

The flu is the flu and the secret is plenty of fluids and bedrest.
My 4 year old grandson was tested for swine flu and found to be positive and was given Tamisol and has been fine...although he is known to suffer with bronchitis.
He was chesty with it but after a week was ok.
The worst thing about it was having to pay the $100 for the flu med as my daughter couldnt name if he had been near anyone with it.
He is in daycare everyday.

Hes made a full recovery.

I don't think you should worry yourself about the swine flu. Being hypothyroid doesn't mean you have an immune deficiency disease like Aids where you are open to infection.
Besides I personally think they made more out of the swine flu than necessary. More people die of regular flu strands and pneumonia than the swine flu.
Now... being a thyroid patient means you need to supplement well and build your body up. Our bodies don't always absorb nutrients as it should so it is important to supplement. :)
