Focusing on the multi-nodular Goiter, Has your doctor recommended surgery due to the size alone??

I have asked the doc about surgery, no one is recommending it yet...i think they are trying to shrink the goiters with synthroid first.
I want and would rather have surgery tho but they're not listening to my pain.

So I am thinking with the weight gain...if they are trying to maintain my thyroid with the synthroid will it maintain my weight also? The doc said i did not need vitamin or nutritional suppliments...

The reason they are possible not recommending surgery is because there are no "abnormal" cells involved and you just have an enlarged goiter...however, due to the goiter' you are having hypo symptoms that are affecting your health...so' surgery may not be such a bad idea.

I also had a multi-nodular goiter, however due to the abnormal cells (although benign), I was recommended to have a total thyroidectomy (12-17-09), in which i did. I had the goiter for a long period of time as well but i did not have any thyroid issues physically beside the goiter.

Now that i do not have a thyroid and am on medication (synthroid),, i do have phsyical issues indicating "hypo" thyroid due to the low levels of thyroid hormones. It's not easy but with the support quite a few on this site, it get's easier.

I don't necessarily agree with your doctor regarding vitamins or nutritional supplements.  First off, I would recommend that you get your vitamin B12 levels tested.  Being deficient (or even low normal range) can make you feel totally exhausted.  I take b12 shots every 2 weeks to keep my levels up so I can navigate.  I'd also recommend that you get your vitamin D levels tested.

Secondly, some of us find that if we take a selenium supplement, it helps "calm" things down.  For me, it helps with the swelling, choking, full feeling I get in my throat.

I'd also recommend a good daily multivitamin.
