Hi, I get a lot of anxiety and panic. I am swinging between hypo and hyper coz my thyroid won't make it's mind up where to stay! So I can't get any treatment at all for it till it settles one way or the other. I get it all the time whichever way it is though, either hypo or hyper. I have learnt from people here that it's a very big symptom of thyroid disease. As far as I'm concerned it's the worst one!
Hi
I felt some kind of panic attacks, like leaving a shop , need to breath, at that time TSH was 3.5, later I repeated in a different lab and my TSH was 2.9 (no panic attacks anymore), and Hashimoto (TPO more then 1000), multinodular thyroid. At this time I'm not medicated yet waiting for other results, but ENDO asked me to do 24 hours urine test to see the catecolamines and metamines (something like this) because I had this panic attacks. He said that I have a mixed with stress, but a really think is the thyroid, I still feel tired, can't do exercise. But still waiting for other results.
I had a severe panic/anxiety attack about 2 months before the dr. started me on synthroid (the generic). Looking back it was really over nothing. I was sorting the papers on my desk and my laptop died right when I really needed it. I had to leave work and have someone drive me home. It took two days and an Rx for anti anxiety meds to get through it. I haven't had any "attacks" since starting meds although I always feel a little anxious.
Amen to that!!!! I was always HYPE and now HYPO and I have both panic/anxiety!! These two horrible words share the same exact symptoms!!!!
Firstly, I sympathize with your anxiety and panic attacks. They are scary indeed. I believe no matter if you are HYPO or HYPER depression and anxiety is an issue for both types of Thyroid issues.
ditto for me. mine got so bad that I was afraid to socialize with friends or go out to dinner because I knew I'd have an attack. I'd even sit near the door at church so I could scoot out fast after Mass b/f my friends found me. Now when I am forced to climb over someone who is hogging the end seat in a pew, instead of feeling huffy, I say an extra prayer for them in case they are feeling claustophobic or anxious, or hypoT.
The panic and anxiety went away after my tsh got down to a 1.89 and stayed away for ummmm, maybe two years now. However, lately I have been experiencing a simmering too-much-adrenaline feeling again b/c for two months I switched from the brand name Synthroid to the generic and the generic messed me up. I am back on the Synthroid and am hoping that feeling goes away fast.
I had really bad panic attacks with hypothyroidism. Now that I am on Levoxyl, I rarely have one. Make sure your doctor monitors your dosage closely and tests your levels about every 6 weeks because my first endocrinologist didn't do this and I started having heart problems due to the dosage being too high
Suzanna,
You sound a little like me. In fact, my anxiety was so bad that I went to see a psychiatrist who diagnosed me with panic attacks before I even discovered my TSH was high. I am going back to the doc on the 12th of June to (I assume) get more testing and a diagnosis. My anxiety was really bad yesterday (I was so worked up my BP was 151/102!!). I hope everything works out for you! I know it is frustrating to deal with. I also know that anxiety (the root of panic attacks) is a symptom of hypothyroid. Is your hypo under control with meds? Hopefully it should stabilize for the both of us!
Keep me posted,
Mel
