Hi, i'm a 16 year old girl and i have had hypothyroidism (hashimotos) for just over a year now and i have just got worse and worse and now i can't cope with it anymore. I have been taking Levothyroxine for a year and it has caused me lots of problems. Firstly it has given me unbearable insomnia as a side effect.I was sure it was the tablets causing it because every time i put my dose up it got much worse and when i was on a lower dose it wasn't as bad. I feel as if i'm being forced awake and i can't even shut my eyes. And the worst thing is that my sleep is SO light! i get woken up by the slightest noise and i wake up totally unrefreshed and exhausted in every way.In the first few months i tried everything, all of the sleep hygiene things there are, and i got prescribed every sleeping tablet there is. But you can't exactly take sleeping pills for ever. I'm desperate for a long term solution. I had a sleep study done at a clinic, and they said they found nothing wrong (probably due to the fact i didn't actually go to sleep) A year later and nothing has changed. I go days with literally no sleep, in fact i'm actually getting quite worried, i've been wide awake for 3 days solid, no sleep at all. I've been to see countless doctors, lots of them just said, you have to be on this medication for the rest of your life so just dealt with it!... well actually this has ruined my life! i'm too exhausted to leave my house, sometimes i can't even stand up. I've missed all of my exams and a year of school. I also recently switched to Armour Thyroid and that gave me insomnia too. When i'm off all thyroxine for say a week or so, i sleep. I don't know what to do. I've been like this for a year and i dont know how much longer i can go on like this for. I have to take thyroxine for the rest of my life so i'm worried i will have this insomnia for the rest of my life too. I just can't cope with this daily exhaustion and fatigue anymore, most days i can barely stand up. And also they dont relieve any of my symptoms despite having normal blood test results and being on the right dose, i still have extrememly bad hair loss, cold hands and feet, constipation, irregular periods, everything. Sorry this is SOO long, thanks for taking the time to read it, i really appreciate all answers i get.
