thyroid problem?

I have had many symptoms for years that suggest to me I have a thyroid problem.  I have always been thin.  I eat a lot of carbs and fried food and I don't excersize.  I weigh about 128 pounds and I am 5 feet 7 inches tall.  Right now I am a size 2-4.  I have major anxiety problems, moody and usually depressed.  My heart races sometimes and my hair is very dry and coarse.  A ton of my hair falls out every time I shower and I have very dry skin.  I never feel normal.  My mother had her thyroid burned out a few years ago.  She also has MS.  I went to a thyroid specialist about two years ago.  He took some bood.  They called me about a week later and said there was no problem.  I know it isn't normal to feel this way.  What should I do?

Agreed...see another doctor, and make sure he does a thorough thyroid workup.  At the very least, you need to have free T3, free T4 and TSH tested.  In addition, since you have autoimmune disease in your family, it would be best to test for thyroid antibodies, too...TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibodies), TGab (thyroglobulin antibodies) and TSI (thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin).  TSI is the definitive test for Graves'.

Best of luck...
