biopsy

I have nodules in the goiters on my thyroid.  I feel a pressure at the base of my neck and feel like I have a slight lump in my throat.  I have hypothyroidism but only require 25mcg of Levothroid.  My dad died of c-cell derived medullary carcinoma.  Should I have a biopsy?

The RAI scan is usually required in case of hyperthyroidism; if you are hypo or have normal hormone levels high resolution ultrasound is good enough.

I had an ultrasound.  The tech happens to be a friend.  He said that, if it were him, he would request a biopsy because of my family history.  However, I do not "think" he saw anything that concerned him.  I assume the lump is the goiter because the doctor said that the area was actually my thyroid???  I will get my results and see if one of the nodules is larger than 1cm.  Should I request an imaging that determines if the nodules are hot or cold before a biopsy.  Thanks!

if nodule is visible on the outside of your neck, it is larger then 1 cm and can be biopsied.
However the ultrasound imaging must be done before that.
