I was on it for 2 weeks. I thought it was easier, but I was tired like I hadn't been the whole time I was on Armour. I also used to go #2 every day, and for those two weeks, it wasn't back to every 3-4 days, but it was 2-3 days. I felt like i was gaining weight every day. I doubled my dose on my own according ot how I felt. I got my labs tested and I was acutally HYPER thyroid- so the meds were working on my levels, but I was getting the results of hypothyroidism. I hunted down a supply of armour and am back on today.
To answer your question. After being on the last available generic Thyroid (its like the old westhroid , grain is 65mg), and off the reformulated Armour, I do feel a little better, but not night and day.
Had lab test yesterday, intersting to see the #'s.
I still have some generic Armour just call thyroid, but just called Natur-throid to see when they will ship backorders. They said starting mid Nov for 1 grain only.
I called a couple compounding places. Two said they cant copy the Armour formula because of patents. I thought there were no patents on Armour?
Two places that I called said they change a little bit of the T3 amount so it is not identical but very close.
And you guys found places that completely copy the original Armour formula? No such luck up here.
So is there really a patent on Armour brand formulation?
I will be getting my first compound med this month. I have to call them today to pay for it. I will ask about this Armour information and see what else I can come up with.
Thanks Michelle and Kevin.
I too am on the reformulated Armour from a compounding pharmacy in the Houston area. It has been just a few weeks and YES I am noticing quite a difference.
Explanation from pharmacist:
The compounding pharmacies are using the ORIGINAL formula to compound the Armour. Many patients who have been on this for years know that there is a vast difference. If possible ask for the ORIGINAL formula to be compounded.
Hope it adds to the understanding it all...
Michelle
