why start meds after PT if thyroid was functioning normal

I wanted to know if anyone else who had a PT due to a nodule that had to be removed was started on synthroid or other thyroid med. According to tests, my thyroid was functioning normal. I tried to understand why the Endo said I had to take meds, but still unclear. Won't this now cause thyroid functioning issues? I go to see my Endo in 2 weeks for 1st checkup since on meds. Can anyone else relate? Please comment. Linda

Hi Cheryl,
Well according to only TSH levels-- blood work on 1/22/08- TSH was 0.6 and again on 5/12/08- TSH was 0.6 . I had my PT done on 5/1/08. So it appeared to stay the same after the surgery.  Before my surgery, the Endo never mentioned anything about having to take meds after PT. I was kinda shocked when I saw him 1 month after my surgery and he prescribed it. I have been on Synthroid 25 mcg which is the lowest dosage. He said it was so my right lobe (the one that's left) wouldn't grow due to overworking itself.
We'll see. I just went this morning to get blood drawn for TSH and Free T4. I go to Endo on 8/12/08. I hope my levels are in normal range.  Keep you posted.

I am not sure but was thinking ... do you have nodules on other side?  maybe as preventitive from any forming (which personally I kind of disagree with).  Otherwise I'm at a loss and just going but others who have posted similar question.

My levels were climbing hypo after my PT .. so I am on Synthroid.  20% do not resume normal function and you find out after 2 weeks usually.
