I have an appt with a new Dr next week.I have a yearly sonogram and biopsy for nodules.I am on armour thyroid 90,my hair is falling out and I have chronic Lyme disease. On a diffferent forum it was suggested that I have a RAIU scan.Do I have the right to insist on this test.I am lowering the armour to 60 in the meantime. Are these numbers suggestive of cancer? My dosage was increased in August , could that account for the lab results in Sept?

I think it's a really good idea that you are getting a second opinion.  It's great that your doctor tests FT3 as that is very important and many doctors don't test it.  However, FT4 is also important and shouldn't be ignored.  It's quite possible that an imbalance between FT3 and FT4 is causing your mixed symptoms.

It's important to treat your Lyme disease, but you can't ignore your thyroid disease in the process.  Your FT3 is way above range, and that coupled with heat intolerance and a racing heart indicates that you are overmedicated.  Over time, this can be dangerous to your overall health.

Good luck with your new doctor, and let us know how it goes.

I don't have any tests for FT4 but I will ask when I meet with the new doctor.I cannot tolerate heat for the last 2 years and my heart is racing but I only notice it when I try to sleep,I have very dry skin this year and my hair is falling out.I still have weight gain (for about the last 4 years, I haven't been able to lose it) and I am always constipated. The only other thing I have done this year is Vitamin IV therapy to boost my immune system but that might be making the Hashis worse. In March of 2010 I was very weak and I was not even fuctional,I could barely stand up and my brain couldn't focus and I had chronic infectionsThe doctor put me on armour and IV therapy and I am about 50% better but now my numbers are changing and I am concerned. My doctor wants to leave the dosage and start concentrating on the Lyme so I am gong for a second opinion.Thank you for your help, this whole thing has me very confused.

Do you have FT4 results as well as FT3?

Your September FT3 is very high and is most likely caused by the increase in August.  It's possible the high T3 content in the Armour is too much for you, but that's just speculation since we do not know your FT4 levels.

The numbers are not suggestive of cancer.  You have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease that is the most common cause of hypo in the developed world.

Do you have hyper symptoms?  Weight loss?  Intolerance to heat?  Insomnia?  Elevated BP and/or HR?  Hand tremors?  Diarrhea?  You can google "hyperthyroidism + symptoms" for a complete list.  The symptoms of hyper are the same as the symptoms of being overmedicated.
