labs

after 18 months 100mg Levo my last test reads
FT3  2.74   (lab range 2.02-4.43)
FT4  1.44                 (0.8-1.9)
TSH 1.43

FT3 went up 0.22 in five months. That's not enough, is it?
by the way, since last post I had a stent put in so this low FT3 business pesters me
regards

Here's a link to another MH thread that mentions ami:

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/Enzymesdeiodinase-selenium-and-iodine-determine-the-T3-T4-ratio/show/928184?personal_page_id=142517#post_4370240

Ami is a very potent deiodinase inhibitor.  Deiodinases ae the enzymes that catalyze the conversion of T4 to T3.  Ami has an extremely long half-life, which apparently varies depending on sensitivity.  It's effects on conversion can last months, or even years, after it is discontinued.

That's the bad news.  The good news is that you might hope to see better conversion as the ami leaves your system???

I'm away for a few days after today, and I have some more research to do on deiodinase (I've never taken ami, but my pituitary is lacking deiodinase).  If I find anything else interesting, I'll let you know.

it lifts the spirits to hear from three stars on thyroid especially as  I still  have been unable to find an endo where I live, I will follow your good counsel. But Goolarra, can you give me the link to the amiodararone piece please. I was on it a year without tests. Then three more months whilst being given Levo. When tests reach normal and symptoms reduce we have to keep taking the medicine, yes?
Thank you all.

I remember you too and was thinking of you... I know its a challenge with cardio issues to raise that T3 level to relieve Hypothyroidism and we discussed age - if I remember right - which doctors are leery of when that is something.

Is your doctor and you talking about the T3 level you're at right now?

Yes, good to hear from you!

I came across something a while ago and thought of you.  Am I remembering correctly that you take amiodarone or did a while back?  If so, I came across some interesting informattion about it.

I agree with gimel on your labs.

Long time since we heard from you.  The need for FT3 is totally dependent on your symptoms.  If you are feeling well, don't fix it.  If you still have lingering symptoms, then yes, I would ask doctor to change your meds to bring up the FT3 enough to relieve symptoms.  FT4 is fine.
