This discussion is related to i was born without a THYROID GLAND, WAS ANY ONE ELSE BORN without one?.

I am 23 and dont have one. jsut during the holidays i gained like 15 lbs in no time at all and was like, WOAH!! it feels like its a huge control issue and even if i exercise constantly and eat healthy its like nothing helps. every time i have blood takin for testing i end up too low. I am currently at 200mcg and now my doctor told me to take 2 pills (levothyroxin) one a week instead of 1.. its a constant struggle.. does anyone else have this problem???

Yes I have the same problems with sleeping... within the past couple years I have had a lot of blood work done trying to figure out which dose is right for me.. I just turned 25 this month but in 2007 I started gaining pounds and even though I went to the gym constantly and ate right i was gaining weight and it was very nerve-racking. I have always loved my sleep.. my twin who has a thyroid gland doesn't need any sleep but I am just the opposite.. always tired... always want to sleep.. can sleep right through the alarm... right now I take 200mcg of levothyroxin daily but take two tablets on Sundays to help level it out since there is no middle dosage available.. so far I am doing better and not gaining any EXCESSIVE weight but it is still very hard to LOSE it.. i am 5'1 140 although I look very healthy and not overweight. I have changed my diet a lot and I am very careful about what I eat.

I was in the first couple weeks I believe when the doctors found out.. born in 1984 and I was very sick when I was born and wouldn't eat/digest anything; they have to feed me through a needle in my head... incubated all that jazz but I have been taking thryoid meds all my life and was very active as a child but when I was 23 my weight became uncontrollable and the past year my need to sleep just took over.. I am actually doing okay but I see this as a life problem futuristically...

Hey there, I'm the same age in the same situation. I love sleep, can't get enough of it... and yes, when I get out of routine, I notice how it affects me so much more. It does make it hard. Most times I fall asleep on the couch if i've had a long day. But then, other times when I need a good night's sleep (after a late night, or in preparation for a long day ahead) I can't. Very frustrating!!!!! And getting out of bed in the morning is so hard, I hit the snooze button about 4-5 times...

I'm twenty-five at the moment, diagnosed early 1983 at six weeks. I have alot of issues with lethargy (I love my sleep) and for my BMI, I've been on 150 mcg for the last ten years or so when my height and weight settled into adulthood.

It's only recently whilst my sleep patterns have been disturbed and out of routine that i have noticed how much my condition actually affects me. Does anyone else suffer from this? It'd be nice to know if I'm not alone.

i never heard of no thyroid naturally.  WOW - If you don't mind me asking how old were you when they found out?

The only thing that comes to mind is depending on your age right now - your body may be experiencing a change of some sort. The demand for the hormone may be there right now in a different way that it used to be. Have you had a blood panel ran lately?

This is where maybe a T3 in addition to your levo might help you alot. Instead of waiting for the new dose of levo to kick in.

Maybe along with checking the adrenals - have a full hormone panel done too. Again I don't know your age - so that may not be the best answer.

You might need to have your adrenals checked. Adrenal fatigue has the same symptoms as low thyroid and weight gain is one of them.
