my routine ultrasound shows swelling need mri

my thyroid was removed two years ago and i was scheduled a routine ultrasound so that i would be able to make yearly visits instead of 6 monthly i didnt anticipate a problem but while having it done today i was told they could see some kind of swelling he was worried about and wanted me to have a mri before my visit with ent surgeon which in about 4 weeks. i havent noticed anything particularly wrong only a tightening in my windpipe which i have had since the op and thought was normal now it has worried me. after my op i had breathing difficulty for about 4 weeks where any exertion had me gasping for breath it gradually went but ever since i get out of breath very quickly. does anyone else have this problem or have any idea what could be causing the swelling after all this time.
thanks jackie

Couple of thoughts.

Why was your original surgery done and what were the results?

Initial thoughts:  no thyroid surgery removes all thyroid tissue.  If you had an autoimmune problem (Hashi's or Graves) then it could be the autoimmune issue affecting the remaining tissue.

If it was for cancer then you need your thyroglobulin level checked (if it was papillary or follicular) to check for a recurrence.

Regardless - they may be talking about RAI (radio iodine) to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue.

If you could post your original diagnosis and any current labs that might help.
