need chicago doctor recommendation

My daughter has all the symptoms of Hashimoto's. There is a family history: me, my sister and my mother. Anyway, her TSH is still considered normal (4.5) even though she is suffering terribly and it's breaking my heart. The doctor here, of course, won't do anything because he says the labs are normal. He is a diabetes specialist though. We live in a small town about 50 miles from South Bend, IN and 90 miles from Chicago. Can anyone help me with a recommendation? I've tried all those doctor search sites but they don't list doctors specializing in thyroid disease. Just Endocrinologists in general.

Thank you!

Google a site Thyroid disease Top Doctors Directory. It lists every state just click and check out the doctor in that area. I would think Chicago should have many. What's nice is there are credible postings also available from people who they treated.

Good Luck with your daughter. Sorry it took so long.

Don't let them tell you 4.50 is normal.  Anything above 3.0 is above normal.  My daughter's entire life changed because of this when she was 17.  2 GPs, 2 Endos and 1 Gyno later they had her on 6-7 different meds including and the first one prescribed an antidepressant was wasn't approved for teenagers and made her suicidal.  Thank god she didn't try but she thought about it alot and told a counselor so now she is classified as depressed and her insurance rates are outrageous.  Is your daughter taking birth control pills?  Estrogen dominance can aggravate hypothyroidism.  If your daughter has a low progesterone level and her estrogen is out of balance with it it can cause her thyroid levels to go out of whack.  I had to take mine completely off birth control of any kind.  Even so, now 5 years later she has been diagnosed with Hashimoto and Poly ovarian cyst syndrome.  She can't gain any weight, has terrible acne, no sex drive and tired all the time along with having her hands "locking" up on her periodically.  We have seen 1 GP, 1 Gyno and 2 Endo this time around and have gotten no where except to have all of them prescribing drugs like crazy.  I had Thyroid cancer 2 years ago so needless to say am just a bit concerned.  (By the way, both of us had alot more success with Armour Thyroid than with any other thyroid medicine.)
I have yet to figure out how to find a doctor who isn't full of ****, let alone one that will see you in under 3 months and I live in Houston, TX....best medical facilities in the country supposedly.  I am about to go in search of an internal medicine doctor to see if I can get someone to pay attention and find the problem and not jsut prescribe drugs that can cause side effects.    Try www.bodybalance.com and run an in home saliva test on her to test her hormone levels. You may have a better idea of what's going on then if it is a hormone imbalance causing some of it.  They mail the results to you and then you can take them to the doctor if you want.  Good luck and don't stop pushing.
