Too soon for sunscreen on incision?

I had a partial thyroidectomy two weeks ago and I'm wondering if its too soon for sunscreen on the incision.

Here in Toronto, we have gone from Horrible Winter to Hot Summer overnight it seems (did you know we only had two seasons? Neither did I!) and my incision seems to be VERY sensitive in the sun.

Can I use sunscreen on it at this point or should I simply keep it covered with a scarf?

Thanks.

The lip balm with sun screen worked great for me and doesn't sting.

After you are ok with the sunscreen I always carry a lip balm SPF 30 with me in my bag .. this way it is very easy to do a sunscreen touchup!

My feeling is  it's too soon, you will more than likely be extremely itchy. I had my surgery performed in June and found out the hard way. I couldnt get the sunscreen off quick enough.
I covered up on the beach with the paper sugical tape and I used a waterproof bandaid in the water.

I hear ya! I was in Toronto Tues to Friday, and it was a welcome change in weather. At least we aren't getting snow like the west. I had my surgery in May and used sunscreen or moisturizer with sunscreen as soon as the incision healed. I also used a lotion called Glaxal Base which I found very good. Enjoy the nice weather.

Yep.  Too much info to share for you ? .. I have had at least 12 moles removed in the past 10 yrs ..... some very large with 2-3" incisions .. so I was told by the Dr who did the incisions a full year to wear good sunscreen ... so I followed suit with my thy incision but to be honest it stung for quite some time the first summer!  And that was 6mos later .. maybe try the type for babies and hypoallergenic .............but keep it covered somehow bcz it can turn permanently darker than the rest of your skin!

If I recall something I read - I think you should be covering the area for at least 3 to 6 months after a TT.

I remember someone talking to me when I was investigating my nodules future outcome - I swear this is where someone said "fashion scarfs" for summer until next year.

I hope someone has credible information for you
