HypoThyroidism and TTC

I have been taking levothyroxin(50 mcg) for almost 2 years (from aug,2006-jan,08) as my first pcp said that I have slight hypothyroidism(after doing my blood work). Then I stopped taking the meds since Jan,08 and discontinued it till Oct,08.Went to see a new Doc and did my bloodwork .This is the new doc is saying I have absolutely normal thyroid result, he wouldn't understand why I was given that meds.He asked me to do an untrasound of thyroid to double check as I told him that I have plans to start trying to conceive from Dec,08.I had my period on 14th,dec,08 and tentatively my ovulation period will be somewhere between 29th Dec,08 and 2/3 rd Jan,09.I have an appointment for the ultrasound  on 23rd Dec,08,but unfortunately the date I have got for thyroid uptake tests are 29th and 30th.I wanna try on my fertile days.So is ultrasound good enough to make sure I don't have a thyroid problem.or I have to  take the uptake test too.If not, Then I can starting TTC asap.the reason I am asking this I remember my doc asked me to do the ultrasound only, but the front desk staff who does all general formalities marked the prescription page .She could found the word thyroid twice, once for ultrasound and one time under Neuro..uptake category and she marked both. Not the doc marked those options. In description she wrote "Thyroid Nodule".She even didn't know about the ultrasound n all.I only asked her what doc told me inside for an ultrasound.I am very confused if I really need that uptake test or just ultrasound is good enough. Also how soon I can ttc after ultrasound is done. Same question if I have to take uptake test eventually.
Lastly should I call doc's office to check with em what actually my doc has suggested.he didn't write anything in my file. So I even don't know if he can recall what to do about my case.Plase help me to clear my doubts.
Thanks a lot

Thanks gimel for your reply. When I went bacl to him for my follow-up session after the blood-work result was sent to em, The doc said, Blood work seemd to be fine, he doesn't understand why my previous doc suggested me to take levothyroxin. As I stopped taking that meds by myself, on my first visit he kinna scolded me saying I am not supposed to stop taking any prescription meds out of the blue otherwise directed by docs. But even though I didn't take that meds for 8 months I didnt have any problemor symptoms of hypo.Only thing is weight gain. I have always been overweight and because of plantar facia in my legs I stopped working out completelysince last 1 1/2 years. So that could also be the reason for gaining weight.
ANyways, My current doc checked my thyroid by pressing the throat area with fingers and said he doesn't think there is any abnormality.Still He would like for me to take those tests(ultrasound and uptake, I checked with the doc's office today, they said both the tests are suggested in my file ) to be 100% sure that thyroid is perfectly okay. I saw on the net uptake is a radioactive test and one has to stop TTC for few months after taking the test. When I taked to the doc's assistant this morning, she , to  my utter astonishment , said she has no clue about all this regarding uptake and I have ask this to my doc during my next visit after getting this tests done. She seemed to take it very casually . I don't wanna take a test unnecessarily and if it has really some impact on family planing ,that's more frustrating. As the doc's assistant is not  even that helpful , I am thinking now should I just do the ultrasound and go back to my doc to know that result without actually doing the uptake test?At this point if I switch my dic, again the new doc will ask me do my blood work and all.I dont know what to do.
I never checked my temp .Thanks so much. I 'll check that to get an idea.
I didn't ask for the first test results though because I didn't read your post then.I'll call em again and ask for thr test result.
Thanks a lot

I'm sure you'll get other responses, but I am confused by what your doc has done.  First he says your thyroid is absolutely normal, then he has you scheduled for ultrasound and  uptake testing.  If everything is normal, why the tests?  When you call doctor office to double check the test plans, I'd also get  the actual results from the first tests that the doc said were "normal" and post the results here.  So do you have symptoms of hypo t?  Have you ever checked your normal temperature to see how it compares to the optimal of 98.6, as a measure of metabolism/thyroid?  Here's a link about temperature.
