RAI is a radioactive iodine that targets the thyroid. There is no other organ in the body that hungers for iodine...only the thyroid.
It is normal for the pulse to go up and if you are concerned, then it would be wise for her to take a beta blocker but usually the first 3 days are anxiety more than anything.
Make sure she drinks HEAPS of water and ***** on sour candys (or slices of lemon) to keep the saliva glands working.
I know I felt like a goldfish as I drank so much water but if you are at concerned...call the Doc who gave her RAI.
She may also have a warm/hot sensation on the neck and that is normal too.
A cold wet fash cloth will rid her of that sensation.
She didnt have much RAI so she should be ok....but as I said, if in doubt, call the Doc to put both your minds at ease.
I had 297mlcs and got through it fine and I have a heart condition and was very hyper when it was done too.
I took 1/2 a beta blocker to avoid the side effects and this is also safe for her too but ask the Doc about dosage depending on her age.
By the 2nd or 3rd day..there are usually no side effects.
I hope that helps you .
