side effect? on Armour

i'm impressed by this site, i've been on Armour 2 1/2 gr. for 1 month now and am experianceing some shortness of breath--have to stop to get my breath frequently with any excertion...In 2 more weeks, i am to get my blood work done again...highest TSH was 61 -4 wks after TT-then i month on synthroid 150 and came down to TSH of 18, so was upped to synthroid 175 for a month and came down to 6--was then switched to Armour and i am finally not feeling so HYPO (when you call it hypo he//, I AGREE)  after viewing this site, i stopped taking my Armour, all in one dose, by swollowing it first thing in the morning (5 am) and started to divide it into 2 doses and letting it melt under my tongue, and have only been doing this x 1 wk.  I am finding that i have a little more energy in the afternoon, now-but by 8:30 pm--the party is over and i am dragging, but since i get up at 4:45am i am ok with that...only symptom i am having is S.O.B. with excertion--no chest pains-neck/jaw/arm pain--had some heart palpations the 1st wk, but not now--i'm so afraid of the Dr. lowering the dose, when i am starting to feel a little more umph..  i started all of this in Aug/08 'cause of hyperparathyroid-then a lump on my thyroid-CA-which involved 3 lymph nodes also--RAI of 150meq   and am so ready to have my life back...I had a friend ask me when my TSH was 6- whats wrong with you- your verily out of the normal range...i really appreciate the support i have felt by just reading this site- thanks for all the good posts and you guys seem very knowledgable by your experiances.

What dosage Armour are you on? Did you have the breathlessness when you took dosage all at once? Are you seeing and Endo For your thyroid? Anyone with history with thyroid cancer here can tell you that your levels need to be supressed to keep reoccurance from happening. I am sure others here with Thyca experience will pipe in.
The thought of your doctor not wanting to increase your Synthroid when your tsh was only at a 6.0 is scary. You need to be taken care of by an Endo who specializes in thyroid and thyca especially.
Now on too Armour...lol...I was on it for 8mos. I felt great the first month and then slowly my body starting resisting it. I got my TSH down but my frees wouldn't change with increases, they never hit mid normal range. I started feeling worse and worse and I did get a lot of breathlessness. In fact this week was the worse and I asked my dr 2 days ago to change me back to synthroid and add cytomel. Last night I ended up in ER because my breathing was sooo labored and painful with my ribs. My TSH showed at .08. I also have Hashi's though which could have kicked in a tantrum. lol  Anyway i just start back on synthroid 2 days ago so can't comment yet on that.
Maybe taking it sublingually is putting too much in your system too quick. I would try to swallow it and see if breathing improves. I myself swallowed mine and couldn't take it sublingually. My body was too sensitive.

I think our other Co Leader Laura can shed some stuff on this more than I - She is having these issues and returned to Synthroid/Cytomel.

PM her and she will respond to this .

p.s....calcium 1 month after TT was in normal range--i still get tingly feet and hands though and the thyca--DR. said in 8 to 12 months, we would do a off medicine for 4 wks, then a scan and when i do that after 2 years, he will give me the all clear...sound about right?

i go in 1 wk to get my tsh- free t3 and free t4 checked..a tsh of 6 is the lowest result, so far....synthroid 175 is the highest the DR. wanted to go- he said 200 was to high of a dose and suggested to start Armour at 2 1/2 grain=150mg ----at which i am starting to not feel so hypo,,,but the shortness of breath is kind of frighting at times...now this last week i have been waking up at 3 am and not being able to go back to sleep and not tired and ready for bed until about 10pm---this has all started since i started to split my dose--1 and 1/2 grain at 5 am and 1 grain at 10am and letting them melt under my tongue...do you have any suggestions?

Hi!

It sounds like you are fairly new here and with your thyroid situation. Don't get discouraged - there will be better days coming soon.

TSH of 6 is still way to high - Is that where you are at right now? You were on a Synthroid of .175mcg at your highest amount - What amount of Armour are you on right now?

Are you all clear now with the hyperparathyroid and Thyca now?
