Unfortunately no, no one has mention "toxic nodule". My latest Free Ts were "normal, a little on the low end"..but I did take my synthroid 1 hr prior to having blood drawn. Yeah, it's a double edged sword..good that I'm getting care quickly..bad that it really wipes me out. I wonder if anyone else feels drained when they have blood taken, mine started only a few years ago..but could just be b/c I'm over stressed.
Thanks for the info..I'm writing it down in my "to ask/research/and possibly demand" journal.
Wow, I did read your journal...it sounds like you've really been through it.
Your levels were fluctuating like crazy, FT4 spanning almost the whole "normal" range in a week. Did any of your doctors mention if one of your nodules was a "toxic" nodule. Toxic nodules produce thyroid hormone kind of like a little, mini thyroid within the thyroid. The nodule is not dependent on TSH, but just keeps putting out thyroid hormone regardless of the TSH level. Of course, like anything else with thyroid, it does this in fits and starts, not constantly, causing swings in levels and symptoms. Just a thought...
I have pituitary resistance to thyroid hormone. My pituitary lacks the enzyme that converts T4 to T3. My pituitary is starved for T3, so it thnks my whole body is (it isn't), and it just keeps cranking out TSH. My TSH stays permanently aroung 20. Sometimes my frees will go down, and so will my TSH, sometimes the opposite, and sometimes they actually behave. Since my thyroid is effectively "dead" from Hashi's, the high TSH has no effect on anything, so we simply ignore it. I have to be treated on the basis of FT3 and FT4. Once you have your TT, TSH will no longer impact you, either. However, since the pituitary is the "master" endocrine gland, a pit tumor could cause disturbances in other hormones.
Sorry, I don't know a whole lot about pit tumors. I hope someone else will chime in. I just want to reasure you that disturbances in TSH can occur for any number of reasons, so don't be discouraged by the prospect of another surgery until you have more information on your pit.
Best of luck with your surgery, and keep us informed on how it's going with you.
All my testing has been Free Ts, just thought I should add that in there for clarification. :D
Sorry, I have severe brain fog and can't for the life of me remember where I put my levels. I have sticky notes ~every~ where.
I have a "bland follicular tumor/mass/nodule" on my right side, that is "huge". It causes me problems, so TT for me. I put in my journal more specifics if you'd like to read it. :)
Here is an example of what two different thyroid test (2 weeks apart, and before synthroid)
Week 1: TSH 0.05/ T4 1.00/ T3 3.00
Week 2: TSH 0.05/ T4 2.00/ T3 1.00
My GYN, was the first to test me (love her she's a great doctor!!), and re-test me. Then my primary tested me 3 times. Both thought I was hypopituitary, because my levels jump around. I haven't gotten the results from the 1mg Dexamethasone test, but had horrible insomnia on top of my insomnia (read that that's not a good sign). I do have "very low vitamin D" and started taking 100,000 units once a week. I also have very low B-12, and have been "prescribed" 1000mcg, twice a day. I was diagnosed with I.C. (Interstitial Cystitus) about 5 yrs ago. I was taking Elmiron, and had a systo-scope with no signs of I.C., so we are not sure if it was the Elmiron working or I didn't have I.C. I have read that there is a hormone that can cause you to be overly thirsty, and "go" alot. I currently take Vesicare to help with the "going" so much..but it really doesn't help that I ~always~ have something to drink near by or I have extreme dry mouth.
If it is also a Pit. issue, what could it be that doesn't mean surgery? Is there a medication you can take for it?
Why are you having the TT?
Unfortunately, your guesses on the T4 and T3 are too broad to be of any use. The range for FT4 is usually somewhere in the vicinity of 0.8-1.8. So, the result you give of 1.0-3.0 goes all the way from very low range (which I would consider hypo) to way over the top of the range (dangerously hyper).
I have a pituitary issue that keeps my TSH high, even though my FT3 and FT4 are in range and I'm asymptomatic. Pit issues don't always mean tumors and surgery...
