t3 vs t4

(i have no thyroid) hey a while ago my doctor took me off t4 because my body was not converting it properly and everyone was telling me to get a new dr. at that time i agreed. but i went with my doctor and went on just t3, and i feel better than ever! i dont feel foggy anymore and finally have real enery and fell focused as well. so just wanted to update everyone so it might be usefull to someone out there.  and my last test i needed to go up a tad bit so i tried to ad 25mcg t4 and it put me right back into the fog so instead i added 5mcg more cytomel and felt good again. so it is what works for each individual.

I too have no thyroid and would like to know how was your change in medication? did you wean off t4 or just stop cold turkey and start t3? also how much cytomel are you taking? how long have you been in t3 only? I'll have a blood test for reverse t3 in about 2 weeks and if my is high I need to go on t3 only treatment, please can you give me more details on your treatment? thanks!!!

Has your reverse T3 (RT3) ever been tested to see if you have RT3 dominance?

The therapy for RT3 dominance is T3-only meds.  Your liver converts T4 to both T3 and RT3.  In some people, RT3 builds up and is converted more rapidly than T3.  The idea behind taking T3-only is that conversion is, in effect, brought to a standstill, which gives your body a chance to purge the excess RT3.  Once this is accomplished, people can usually go back onto some amount of T4 meds to help stabilize the T3-only rollercoaster.  It might be that you just haven't been on the Cytomel-only for long enough to purge that RT3 out of your body?  Just something to keep in mind...

Thanks for the info! I dont know if my endo would be on board with this ever. I had thyroid cancer and I guess it needs to be fully supressed with T4. But I'm hoping if I dont feel energetic soon she will add cytomel. (not use to this dragged out, foggy, tired feeling)
