My dr had me testing once per year. 7 months after my annual labs I knew something was off. I went in and my tsh climbed to 4.65. 2 weeks later, the depression, paranoia, and jealousy got really bad and stayed that way for 3+ months. I'm almost normal today with a tsh of 0.69. I'm requesting tsh, ft3, and ft4 tests every 4 months now. I can't imagine why my doctor won't agree to that. I'll stop by and ask the nurse this week. Hope you feel better soon!
I guess it is good to know I am not alone with the mental symptoms that have troubled me over the years. When I went to the ER the first thing they told me after checking my blood was all the anxiety was stemming from my thyroid. I still had to walk out the recovery. It has taken 5 years of a lot of work on my part and trust that I was getting better and medication that I didn't want to take but did it anyway to get at least as stabile as I could and now still learning about myself and what to do to help myself. At least I am going forward in this process even if some steps are backward to get adjusted and then forward again with newly gained knowledge, some of it I get here. Thanks to all of you again!
Odds are pretty good that anyone with Hashi's does have a good chance of relapsing a little at least until your immune system completes the damage to your thyroid to the point it stops producing hormone all together, the longer the period between labs, the better the chance of a step back. The process of the destruction continues in most cases (At least that is the way my old Endo explained it to me) And the more destruction, the more replacement hormone is needed to make up and keep the symptoms away, so an increase in meds every now and then, in most cases "Is in the Cards" So stay on top of the lab work. Regards FTB4
Ok sorry but why did you relapse? Was it because of the increase? Please share or is there a link to your story. I'm not balanced just yet and still feel awful. Please share just a bit more.
I started on 25mcg of synthroid 3 years ago and climbed to 100. This latest relapse I bumped up to 137. I'm 95% back to normal and will be actively tracking my levels the rest of my life. I don't want to go through that again.
Hi
How did you get leveled out? Please share your secret. Can you tell me what dosage of medication you started on and are on now?
Thanks!
Let me tell you, yes. My emotions started with being constantly irritated. Then when I started levo 50 mcg, I started having crying spells. I had a very low tolerance for stress, and I still do. Also, I felt irritable, sad, heavy headed. So to answer your question, YES. I found out that my t3 levels were low and when I started cytomel, I begin to level out emotionally. It really helped.
I have never had any physical symptoms, all mental. I just got over 4 months of depression, envy, jealousy, etc. It was hell, and the 2nd time I've been through it. Nornal has never felt so great. I'm euphoric. I'm working on a plan to minimize the chance of another relapse. Good luck!
Sometimes people will have issues with depression, anxiety, crying spells, mood swings, and irritability.
Not everyone will have them, but I think many do. I didn't but my twin sister did. We both had graves/hyper.
