thyroid #'s were finally okay....

My numbers were okay and slightly high...went to mayo and was diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome, which has the same symptoms of uncontrolled hypothyroidism.  Weight gain, fatigue, weakness, muscle pain, etc, etc.

I am on a drug to increase my dopamine levels and after 5 nights on it, feel nearly 100% better.

For everyone with hypo who's #'s are okay, you might want to explore a sleep disorder.

thanks, but when i wanted to quit smoking a few years a go they gave me wellbutrin and was highly allergic so that's out. I was thinking maybe one of those new ones like requip?

anyone out there taking this drug? requip? does it leave you groggy in a.m.?

I take wellbutrin, which I've read may help RLS.  I went off for awhile and the RLS definately got worse.  Started wellbutrin again yesterday and am hoping it helps. So far so good.

I also suffer for RLS since childhood, I take amitryptiline for it, I can take it as needed, lately it has been bad, graves disease is my woe. but numbers are getting better, and not sleeping mostly due to RLS, it is severe these days, i wasn't sleeping before cause of insomnia, so now not sure if i didn't have RLS would i be sleeping?

glad your numbers are good, can't wait for that news!!

maybe i will ask about your combo, the amitryptiline makes me very groggy in a.m. and hard to get up, and that is only 20 mg. I usually stick to 10 mg. the grogginess is very aggravating to work with.

I also have RLS which is getting worse as I get older so I know from experience how miserable it is.  Do (or should i say "did") you only have symptoms at night?  I have them in the evening which makes going to the movies a little challenging!!!  I have hesitated to take meds because of fear of side effects so I was very interested in your post.

Congrats on getting relief :)  I hope all continues to go well for you...please post and let us know.

Hi Laura,

Mirapex is the name of the drug, combined with Ambien CR.  While one of my friends made a negative comment about this, I say only this, we are not doctors so I am going with their advice.  I got back up from my normal Endo and he told me my weight is dropping now that the thyroid is medicated properly but sleep could have been effecting my weight as well.  I was not eating more, but he said when you don't sleep your hormones get mixed up causing weight around the middle.

I highly suggest a sleep study or at least a consultation with a sleep doc.  I believe it is going to change everything for me.
