thyroidectomy and eye issues

Hello,
I am scheduled to have a thyroidectomy in 3 weeks due to graves disease. I was curious - has anyone experienced eye issues after getting their thyroid removed. I currently do not have any eye issues, but am wondering if the surgery can cause eye problems, or if people tend to find that their eye issues started after surgery? thanks!

I never had any issues with eye problems after my TT. Mind you I am getting older and need to use reading glasses now! LOL
I think maybe you have had misinformation about thryoid disease. As tm514 above states, it is normally Graves disease which has eye problems.

Rest assured having a thyroidectomy only leads to a lighter wallet not eye disease.

Cheers

I have never heard of surgery causing eye problems associated with Graves.  Usually, surgery is the preferable option if someone has Graves thyroid disease (because RAI can sometimes make eye disease worse if already present).  Graves Eye Disease is caused by different antibodies than the thyroid disease.  They are related, but having one doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the other.
