I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid after my second child.  I am on 100mg of levothyroxin every day.  I guess this must be quite a low dose, I'm not really sure.  But I conceived straight away and now have another beautiful little girl.
Good luck!

NO please dont listen to these stupid comments above.  I have had an underactive thyroid for around 10 years, and also have polysistic overies & im about 2stone 7lb overweight. Im on 200mg of thyroxine a day, so its quite bad.
I was told that I would have problems trying to conceive naturally, in the end it split me and my husband up for a while, due to me being an emotional wreck about it.  But we sorted things out, and when I came off the contraceptive pill (which i'd been on for 16 years), I conceived a baby girl within my first month of trying.  Not only is she georgeous, but she is extremelly intelligent and regularly outshines other kids of the same age, with NO defects, at 27 months she can count to 10, knows all her colours, animals, can write her own name and you can have a conversation with her!!.  She was born four weeks early and weighed 5lb 12oz, but she was ok and the birth went well.  I'm now 5 months pregnant with my second child after 2 months off the pill!  Please dont stress about it, stress makes it harder to conceive.  Have fun, enjoy your partner and keep up your medication, Im sure it will work out for you!  Good luck :-)

I am also in the same situation and have only just started taking the medication to bring down my TSH levels (which are at 31). Any idea of how long it will take before we can conceive? Its been a very long emotional time!

Yes, absolutely you WILL have problems conceiving, as I am in the same boat as you except I have Graves' Disease.  I have done YEARS of research on conceiving and thyroid problems and everything, including pregnancy books, say your chances of becoming pregnant are slim to none.  Also, it would be very bad to conceive while hypo due to abnormalities and retardation in babies of mothers with hypo.  Death to the child is also a possibility.  Your thyroid plays a part in ALL of your body's organs and how they work from day to day, including fertility.  Getting your thyroid hormones level and steady with proper medication and doctor's supervision, you should be able to get pregnant with no problem!  You should definantly get your hormones checked on a regular basis, if you're not already.  Just remember, I'm not a doctor and you should always consult with them about anything you read on these forrums.  I wish you luck and you are in my prayers!
