TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is a messenger hormone prom the pituitary gland telling the thyroid how much hormone to produce. These hormones are T4 (the storage hormone) which should be efficiently converted (via the liver, brain and thyroid) to the 'active' hormone T3 which ALL body cell need to operate. If your thyroid does not produce proper hormone levels, you need to take thyroid 'med' replacement hormone, its that simple. Low thyroid hormone levels effect the whole body, everything.

"I just don't believe in exercising"  - well its time to change. Taking walks or riding a bike is easy for most.

"My Dr. has given me Thyrox25 now how it will help me , does it help in reducing my weight".  - Not necessarily, it can, but don't assume it will.

What are the reference ranges for your T3 and T4; and are they total or free?  If they are total, they are considered obsolete and of very little value.  Please let us know about that, along with the reference ranges as these vary from lab to lab.

If your thyroid is not producing adequate hormone, you will need to take the medicine prescribed, probably for the rest of your life.

The weight issue is one symptom of being hypothyroid.  As the medicine takes effect and brings your thyroid levels to what's normal for you, you should find it easier to lose weight.  For some people, the weight comes right off when put on thyroid med; however, some of us have to work at getting it off. So just taking the med might not be enough to reduce your weight.  You may have to reduce your calories even further and/or begin a light exercise program, such as a brisk daily walk or something, which is also good for your heart.

Thyroid problems don't always "run in the family", so you can still have them even with no family history.

Do you know if Hashimoto's Thryoiditis is the cause your being hypo?  Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease in which antibodies attack and destroy the thyroid, so it will eventually produce no hormone on its own and you will be dependent entirely on the replacement hormone. Many of us on this forum have Hashimoto's.
