what do I do?

A year ago in January I took the chantix pill to stop smoking.  In March I became sick - there were days I honestly thought that I was going to die.  So tired - gained tons of weight - Hard to breath at times - forgetful - loss of hair - acky joints - feet feel like they are being crushed - dry itchy skin - much more.  It has now been a year, my t4 level is now at .433 I have gone from 150 to 137 and my tsh level does not seem to change much.  Is there something more that we can be checking?  I have a twin sister also used the chantix and is going through the exact same thing.  We need help and do not know what to do - we seem to have the doctors stumped.  PLEASE help.  Thanks so much for your time

Hello.  I am a respiratory therapist and have been watching the wonders of Chantix since it was developed.  I have seen wonderful results in many patients.  However, my husband could not take it.  He became very mean and I took him off.  Shortly there after, even though I was told this was not a side effect of Chantix, reports started coming out about this very issue related to Chantix.  My point is, who knows?  I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different.  Are you still taking Chantix?  I am assuming not.  ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient.  You may want to get that checked.  Wishing you the best.
