thanks for the advice, he takes his tablet as soon as he wakes in the morning and is taking no other meds or vitamins, doesnt eat any soy products and iodine shouldnt be a problem, he was born in the uk and we are now in austarlia so diet has always beeen good, we just think we should be worried about the cause of it, there is no family history at all of thyroid problems but everything we read said there will be a cause!

make sure he waits 60-90 minutes before eating after taking his meds... meds should be given on an empty stomach. vitamins supplements, other meds shouldn't be given within 4 hours of thyroid med. If he's eating a lot of soy (soymilk, tofu, soy protien powder, miso) that's a problem as soy interferes with the thyroid amongst other things. Too much iodine in diet is not good either. Sorry to hear of this problem in one so young.

hi, thanks for replying, he has had all tests, antibody, tsh, t4 and t3 done 3 times so far over a period of 8 weeks and all have been fine apart from the tsh which started at 8.69 and then the last one was 14.4 which was when they started the thyroxine, he,s been taking that for 7 weeks but we still dont see the endocfronlogist for another 3 weeks.???

How many antibody tests did they run? They may need to run two or three different ones to pinpoint a cause.

What was his TSH when they decided to start the Thyroxine?
Did they run a Free T4 or Free T3 test?
