Heavy feeling in eye

For the past one month or so I have been feeling a heaviness in my right eye.

The strange part is that it happens ONLY when I lie down to sleep at night and turn to my right side. I feel that suddenly something heavy as come in front of my eye.

When I switch off the light I have noticed that vision from the right eye is reduced - i.e. the amount of ambient light I can see in the room is much less than what I can see from my left eye. This heavy feeling goes away if I sit up or switch on the lights.

I am highly myopic in both eyes and am 39 years old. I had my last detailed eye exam about an year ago and everything was fine. I am not diabetic.

What could be the problem.

Well I went and saw a doctor. He dilated the eyes and examined them. He said the retina was ok. He also said that there was a slight infection in the eyes and has prescribed 2 different antibiotic eye drops and also some lubricating artificial tears.

Sash83 and doctornee medical - Thanks a lot for your response and help.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The feeling could be due to a foreign body in the eye, worsening of eyesight, cataract or mild retinal detachment (less likely). Since it is more than a year now, please get your eye examined by an eye specialist. Take care!
