Ankle Pain-Remedy

I have had the same excruciating pain, it is intermittent ant is very painful. I was advised to use Burdock Root and/or some type of lymphatic cleanse.  It is supposedly a result of a clogged lymph node or over worked lymphatic system and needs to be flushed/cleansed.  It worked until I stopped taking it, it slowly came back, I am going out to pick up more Burdock Root.  You can get it as a tea, or as a tincture.  It helps me,that's all I know.  It is natural and not a drug, so I was open to trying it.

This discussion is related to nerve pain-ankle.

I too was having this pain. I had read somewhere (maybe somewhere here) to try burdock root. I found some as a supplement and after two days the pain stopped. After having this pain for almost 6 months it stopped. I have not had it for several months now. I started taking the supplement nightly but now I take it every few days. Still no pain. Hope this helps others.

Since this topic is a continuation of the topic at http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Undiagnosed-Symptoms/nerve-pain-ankle/show/199167, I want to be sure we keep this topic on the exact same pain area of the foot.  The pain we are talking about is this:  A sharp pain on the outside of the foot just below the ankle bone, on either the left side of the left foot or the right side of the right foot.  I notice that one person in this thread talked about pain on the inside of their foot, but this topic does NOT address that area of the foot.  Please keep this discussion to the correct area of the foot.

I too have had this pain.  It started about 6 months ago while I was sitting in a meeting.  Suddenly with no warning I got a sharp stabbing pain in my right foot in the area mentioned above.  It felt like an electric shock or someone snapping me with a rubber band.  It lasted about 5 seconds, and the pain level was like 9-10 on a scale of 10.  VERY painful.  Since that time 6 months ago these ankle "attacks" have occurred to me more frequently, and then a couple weeks ago I started having them 3-4 times per day.  They happen when I'm sitting most often, but sometimes when I'm standing and a few times while I'm sleeping.  They almost never happen when I'm walking.

More info: This area of the foot is where the sural nerve is (look that up on Google, etc.).  Last Monday I finally went to a podiatrist who is also a foot surgeon.  She looked at my x-rays and saw nothing wrong with them except that I have a high arch and thicker foot than normal.  She explained that the sural nerve in that area is being affected by the shape of my feet and the sideways movement of my foot during activities.  That is causing inflammation in the pathway of the nerve and is irritating the nerve.  So she is going to fit me with orthopedic shoe inserts (about $350) to see if that corrects the situation.  When I was in the office she gave me a cortisone shot directly in the pain area.  The shot was not that bad (pain level 3-4).  She also measured my legs and found that my right heel is about 1/4" shorter than my left.  She said she expected to find that based on her experience.  So she gave me a 1/4" pad to fit under my heel in my right shoe.  It's only under the heel, not the whole foot, so it feels a little weird since my right heel is now 1/4" higher than the ball of my right foot (area under the toes), but I trust her judgment and I've been wearing it for the last week faithfully.

Since the cortisone shot and the heel pad, I've only had 1 minor ankle attack (pain level 5-6) and that was the day after the shot.  I've been careful not to move my right ankle side to side to prevent further irritation.  It looks like I'm "on the mend" but the cortisone shot will wear off in a couple more weeks and I still have to get the orthopedic inserts, so time will tell.

I hope my experience helps someone else.  God bless you.
