Cannot Figure Out What's Wrong!

All of my symptoms started early in February and have been present ever since.

I started out being told that I had the flu (presented with most of the symptoms for it but was never actually swabbed and tested). After a few days the fever and congestion and all of that subsided but I still felt completely exhausted and tired and ached all over. Following that, I began to have instances of becoming really dizzy and nauseous and having a rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath that would come and go in spells.

Since then I still have spells like that from time to time, but the main issue is that I have not been able to overcome the extreme body fatigue and just generalized feeling of not like myself. I am constantly tired, typically feel dizzy and nauseous at any given time, my vision at times seems blurry and strained and at other times too sharply focused and almost tunnel-like. I have headaches daily and they typically begin at about the same time during the afternoon. I have had a lot of issues with confusion, disorientation, and feeling like I am in a fog a great deal of the time. Along with this I have started having rather out of character mood swings where I become very irritable, impatient, and at times lonely for no reason. I have also developed issues with anxiety throughout all of this (one doctor thought that this was my only issue, however, I strongly believe that it is merely another symptom as I have never had issues with anxiety before and other than my health, things in my life are going quite well). My periods have also become rather abnormal. A span of four months passed without having one, and since they have become rather sporadic, choosing to start and stop whenever they please and differing in intensity although I have been on the same birth control for years. I have also had a great deal of pain and cramping during sexual activity, typically resulting in not being able to move for about half an hour after any kind of orgasm.

As of recently, I have not been able to stay asleep throughout the night and find myself waking at various hours of the morning wide awake and sweating profusely with a great need to go to the restroom and then finally falling back asleep a few hours later and reawakening feeling completely exhausted. There are days where it is simply a challenge to walk up and down the stairs in my home without feeling absolutely exhausted and like my muscles are giving up on me. I also often notice at times that my extremities (especially legs and feet and knuckle joints) will become blue and splotchy.

My current doctor has done many rounds of blood work and only a few things have resulted from that. I was found to be anemic in early Feb, but that has since been remedied with supplements. I have had an MRI which came back slightly abnormal with white matter lesions although the neuro cleared me and said he was not particularly concerned and everything looked okay. At one point my liver enzymes were elevated but restabilized a couple of weeks after in a different round of blood work. At the same time my liver enzymes were elevated my muscle enzyme level was elevated to a measure of over 1000. This was quite a shocker but also normalized during the next round of blood work. Ive been tested for numerous viral issues and all turned up negative except for Epstein Barr showing slightly positive. I was sent last week for a ACTH stimulation test and was told by my gp that the results were low and that they were sending me to the endocrinologist. At that appointment I was informed that the levels themselves were not actually low, but if anything elevated. My morning baseline cortisol measured 39 and after the stimulation were at 45 (not the doubling that is usually expected during the stimulation so I'm not sure if that means anything). The endocrinologist decided to do a 24 hour urine test and gave me a blood glucose meter to track my blood sugar to make sure that I am not in the early stages of type 1 diabetes. My mother does have an adrenal tumor and is in the process of being evaluated from MEN Syndrome, however the endocrinologist did not seem to pay much mind to me mentioning that, which seemed strange.

Really I'm just to the point of searching any and everywhere for a possible solution to this. It has been 5 almost 6 months of feeling terrible and bouncing back and forth between doctors and therapy sessions (for the alleged anxiety) with really no relief. I am a 22 year old girl who has always been highly athletic and in great shape. I eat healthy daily, do not drink sodas or caffeine or anything of the sort and do not touch fast or fattening foods. I am hoping like crazy that someone has at least a suggestion of something else to look for here that my doctors and I may be missing as even they have admitted that they are kind of at a loss.

Hello,md0164 - I'm sorry you aren't feeling well.  I was thinking that your symptoms are so mixed!  My daughter is not anorexic but has trouble gaining weight so she is taking Purple Cone Flower Root and a Weight Gainer Protein powder.  She is at 116 up from 106.

The other problems sound like your hormones are all off too.  You might want to try taking Sepia from the health food store.  It's supposed to help with all kinds of problems, including female hormones -

Sepia is for:  irritability, episodes of crying, poor memory, left-sided headaches, constipation, gas and bloating, chronic vaginitis, scanty or irregular menses, chills... etc.

Magnesium and Chromium are also great supplements to take for cramping.

Best wishes.

50% of Lyme patients show negative lab work. Youtube has the full documentary: Under Our Skin. Just something to consider.

Also wanted to add that my weight has been iffy through all of this too. This time last year I lost about 30 pounds easily through diet and exercise and was quite comfortable weighing 125. When all of this started I almost immediately dropped to 118 without any type of trying. It was ridiculously difficult to put the weight back on and even now I eat quite a bit more than usual and put no weight on.

i have contacts and glasses both although i typically only ever wear my contacts due to not liking the appearance of my glasses very much. my prescription is bad enough that i never go without wearing them as i would run into various things and not be able to see anything less than an inch in front of me basically. my vision seems fine with my contacts in, so i dont think that my prescription has changed drastically.

the vision problems that i seem to have accompanying this come and go. at times it'll seem like my vision gets hazy and foggy and at other times it seems like my vision becomes very acute and focused and almost tunnel like. i've complained to my mom many times that ill have instances where everything around me just seems "too bright and sharp and real" or other times it just seems like a fog has settled around in front of me. i can't really figure out a good way of describing it.

i don't know if it is helpful at all but i have noticed that when i'm out in the sun or in fluorescent lighting i do notice that there is a floater in my vision, particularly in my right eye and usually only see it in the top right corner of my field of vision.

I think the eye exam could explain some of your symptoms. If you need glasses and  your not using them most of what your complaining about could be addressed.
