Hello all,
I developed some odd symptoms about 3 months ago. Frequent dizziness spells, brain fog, derealization, some fatigue, and this caused my anxiety to go through the roof.
I was pretty much debilitated. These feelings would come and go but for the most part I felt off.
After googling symptoms I developed some heavy health anxiety about a brain tumor.
I went to the ER and was blown off as anxiety and stress, I got to a PCP and was told the same thing after blood tests and a quick neurology test came back normal.
I was prescribed anti depressents that I refuse to take and risk messing myself up even more.
I was still feeling awful and certainly not convinced this was anxiety related.
I went to the ER mentioned nothing about anxiety and was given a CT scan with and without contrast to rule out anything sinister, more blood tests, and more in depth neurology exam. All came back normal once again.
As I continued dealing with these awful symptoms and developing more issues from my anxiety I saw a new doctor and requested an MRI.
He requested it but only did it without contrast. When I asked why he can't request with and without he said only a neurologist can request contrast and it would certainly show any tumors.
I got the MRI done and it came back totally normal. No signs of ANYTHING wrong.
I researched it more and found that an MRI without contrast can miss tumors.
I asked a few doctors online and got mixed opinions, most say it's a very safe bet that there is no symptomatic tumor from both tests coming back completely normal, but is risking leaving a tumor that was unnoticed by the scans worth it just because "it's a very safe bet and is highly unprobable" just because of how rare a tumor at my age would be (20 years old) and having those tests coming back normal?
Doctors don't really think a tumor is causing my issues but a lot of my symptoms match stories from what I've read.
My big question is, is it safe to rule out a tumor from a normal CT Scan with and without contrast and an MRI without contrast coming back normal or do I need to request an MRI with contrast to rule that out?
I don't really trust doctors much as they go off of statistics from symptoms, and the statistics my symptoms being from a tumor at my age are VERY low.
Any info is highly appreciated.
