submandibular lymphoid tuberculosis

My friend, a 26 years old female patient, has submandibular lymphoid tuberculosis. Last year, she had the tuberculosis removed by surgery, then had taken isoniazid and rifampicin for one year. But she got the disease back this year again when she stopped taking the medicines, and it looks like more seriously this time. And the doctor she have been seen has no good solution so far. Could someone here give her any suggestions?

The tuberculosis bacteria becomes encapsulated and never really goes away. The most one can hope for is remission.

Surgery is helpful in removing identified pockets of infection. Though thought of as a "lung disease" it can end up anywhere in the body.

If she "stopped taking the medications" there is a possibility she has developed a strain that is resistant to these medications.

This is a terrible disease that has again surfaced.

She must follow her physician's medication protocols meticulously.

I wish her good luck.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If tuberculosis has returned then it can be due to drug resistant tuberculosis or incomplete treatment. Please take a second opinion regarding your friend’s treatment either from a disease specialist or a chest specialist. Take care!

A second opinion for one.... Has her entire body been checked?  I've read articles about TB being in odd places of the body.... and it's not pleasant.

I'd also encourage her to get blood work to see if there is an underlying immunological issue.

TB is typically treated with a combination of several drugs. It's not uncommon to need to take several.

Good luck to her. :(
