Fluctuating temperature with abdominal pain

My mother recently started feeling sick. She has a horrible pain in her lower left abdomen. Then she started acting 'drugged'.I thought it was a stroke or something, so I took her to the emergency room. They said it was diverticulitis, and put her on TONS of antibiotics. 6 days later... She still goes in and out of acting 'drugged', and the weirdest part is her fever. It fluctuates between 97.9 & 101 back and forth often 15 minutes at a time. Back and forth rapidly and repeatedly. Doctors have no idea what's up....... Any ideas? ????

Urinary track infection is likely and may need specific antibiotic after culture and sensitivity test.

Hey redrum2777,

I'd like to ask you several questions about your mother in order to possibly figure out a cause. All I ask is that you try to answer these questions to the best of your ability.

1. What times of the day are these symptoms worse, if any(eg. morning, evening, night, etc.)?

2. Any known precipitating factor for her symptoms(eg. physical illness, medication, recent surgery, alcohol withdrawl, etc.)?

3. History of head injury?

4. Past or current psychiatric history?

5. What, if any, medications does she use(List all prior to her receiving antibiotics)?

6. Does she have risk factors for a stroke, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, family history, diabetes, smoking, etc.?

7. Family history of dementia?

8. What is her history of alcohol use?

9. Are you aware if she had used any illicit drugs?

10. Possible carbon monoxide poisoning(Though rare, could be caused by charcoal, furnaces, fire places, etc.)?

11. Chronic use of barbiturates?

12. Any recent symptoms of depression and/or anxiety?

13. Did she have this fever before use of antibiotics?

14. Is she having headaches?

15. Psychotic symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and/or impaired thinking?

16. If possible, could you go into further detail regarding her acting "drugged"(eg. what she is saying, what she is doing, memory loss, impaired speech, etc.)?
