Swelling on left side of body

What can be done to determine reasons for the entire left side of my body to swell  There are times I swell from the left side of my face right down to my foot.  The longer I am up the worse it gets, I have also noticed after I am fully dressed and have been wearing my bra the swelling is worse and there is significant pain in my left arm and intense swelling. It feels like a rope or something has been tied around the upper part of my arm. When that tightness begins the rest of my left side begins to swell  The left side of my face swells and it also seems to be effecting my throat. When I try to swallow my meds they often get stuck because the left side is so swollen.
During this swelling (or seemingly shut down) time my L foot begins to itch and gets little bumps that itch on it.
I really begin to just ache and hurt all over. The center, upper part of my back (between my shoulder blades) begins to burn like fire.
I have had problems with the lower extremities and my arm swelling for a good 10=15 yrs. The throat swelling just a few months.
I have been checked out for heart problems and that has always been a good report. I do not know what the problem is, I just know whatever it is, it's getting worse. There are times when this seemingly shut down takes place I just feel like I'm going to explode. It's kind of like a rubber band has been put around my left side and the pressure has gotten to the point it's just going to pop
Can blood flow become restricted on one side

When I saw the GP it was not my reg Dr.  He was booked. The Dr that was his fill in checked a Cat Scan that had been done in Aug to try and help determine what was causing swelling in the L side of my throat said it did not appear from that scan to be a lymph system prob

That's great news that your transplant has not been rejected.
Good thing too that your kidney problems have settled down.
I will pray for you for all to be well too, now and when you get the your biopsy done.

6th December is not too far away now to be seeing your transplant doctor, and I do hope that he finds the cause of your swelling problem so that it can be treated.

At the same time I am surprised that your doctor has not actioned any blood or other tests to determine if it is a lymph system problem so as to save time so that when you see the transplant doctor he would have had the results.

Did the doctor say anything to you as regard what is to happen to find out if it is a lymphatic problem?

Best wishes.

I recently went to my GP for a sinus  infection and tried to explain my symptoms  He also mentioned possibility of lymph system problem

Will see my transplant Dr  Dec 6   Guess I will tell him abt this prob.

I know my kidneys can also be a source of a lot of complications  For whatever reason they have not been 100% at accepting of the new liver. For awhile I had to have blood tests to check for problems w/kidneys regularly  There were a couple of scares, but they never did get too out of whack

In Jan. my transplant will be 1 yr.  A biopsy will be done at that time to determine whether or not I will have to get treatments for Hep C  I am hoping and praying for the virus to still be "sleeping" or better yet  just plain old gone

I have had the same exact issue that's been going on for about 2 years. Symptoms came on suddenly. The doctors have yet to be able to diagnose me. I was wondering if you have any back issues? Mine started after a couple of days of extreme back pain and I've had issues with back pain on & off since. I've been trying to get the doctors to give me a MRI of the back, but they say it's not possible. Yet, they have no other ideas...

Needless to state, you need an immediate evaluation, preferably at a teaching hospital.  It is, of course possible there is damage to the opposite side of the brain, but I don't think that is likely. The assymetrical nature of the problem suggests a viral infection, specifically a variant of herpes zoster, which is a reactivated VZV infection. A characteristic of these infections is "one-sided" neurological symptoms, as if you drew a line down the spinal column and one side developed all sorts of issues and the other side remained normal. There are treatments, if this is the case.

Sorry you are having this problem. Besides checking the lymph system I would also have your kidneys and liver checked.
hope you figure this out soon.

You should make an appointment to see your doctor again.

With the swelling being confined to one side of your body makes me wonder if you have a problem with your lymphatic system.

Hope you get a correct diagnosis soon and an appropriate remedy.

Best wishes.
