Have a sore thoat and white spots after having an appendectomy. What could it mean?

I just had my Appendix taking out this past monday morning. I got a sore throat and thought it was the anti-biotics causing a reaction. I called the doctor and he said its more then likely from the air tube being put down my throat from surgery but did change 1 of the 2 anti-biotics I am on. Well since then my throat has been getting worse, with more redness and now white spots. Did I pick up strep throat or something or could it be something else? I called the doctor back and he just said go back to the ER with no help. I cant afford to keep going back to the ER ranking up my bills.
I am on 2 antibiotics (Metronidazol and Erythrocin) and stopped taking the Metronidazol last night thinking that might be causing the problem, however my throat isnt getting any better. I dont know what to do.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
After general anesthesia, it is normal to get a sore throat. Also it is possible to get infection too. White spots could be pus or just debris.
Only an antibiotic will not help. Along with it you will have to take anti allergics and anti-inflammatories. Also consult an ENT specialist. You will probably have to stop antibiotics if the doctor wants to take a throat culture. However do not stop them on their own.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

You probably should go to a regular family doctor to get the throat cultured.  Are you taking acidophilus capsules to counteract the antibiotic killing of the good as well as the bad bacteria?  An example of why it is good to get cultured- a relative of mine had an ear infection they kept treating with antibiotic.  They finally cultured it and discovered the infection was fungal and the antibiotics they had been giving were likely just worsening the infection, rather than making it better.
